Chapter 2 - Farewell world, hello apocalypse.

"Look look! He's wearing a sweater in the middle of summer!"

Often times when children see me, they would often point out how shady I looked.

And the child in front of me was no exception, tugging on the hem of his mother's shirt as the mother would quietly tell her child to stay away from people like me.

It was just something that I was used to, getting weird stares the moment I entered the subway.

Well, it's not like I really cared. Rather, I found it reasonable.

After all, who wouldn't find a guy wearing hoodie, a mask and sunglasses in the middle of summer suspicious?

And my white hair didn't help the fact that I looked like a shady old turd who went around offering candy to little kids, though they would have given me even weirder stares if I had taken off my sunglasses.

I took out my smartphone, to press the new updates for the Manwha of my favorite novel, "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" before my eyes peered over to the tacky looking gift box, which was being held by the person next to me.

And to my surprise, the person holding that box was reporter Lim Yeri of the LPN agency, famous for digging dirt on celebrities, who had once done an interview on me.

She held her phone and her gift box in another, her face morphing to that of a frown before she immediately detected the unsuspecting eyes laid upon her; as her eyes flickered directly from her phone to me.

Lim Yeri widened her eyes upon seeing me, letting out an audible gasp; clearly not expecting to have met me in the subway, with our seats coincidentally next to each other.

"Ah. Yul–ssi.."

She gave a quick nod, to which I nodded back.

"Hello."

"How have you been?"

"I'm doing good. You?"

"Ah. Yes."

".."

"..."

My eyes travelled back to the gift box as silence befell the both of us after the awkward situation.

"Is it your birthday?"

I asked in order to dampen the heavy atmosphere, only to be met with an unexpected frown from Yeri.

"Ah.. No.."

She said fretfully, swiping the few of her fallen hairs behind her ear.

"It's not my birthday.."

If it wasn't her birthday, it was already pretty obvious that she got a gift; either from her friends or perhaps from a guy who likes her.

After all, tons of guys had quite literally asked her out when the both of us first met up for the interview in a simple cafe.

Guys were simply swarming around her, to the point we had to cancel the interview and schedule it for another time.

"I see. You must be very popular."

"Ah. Not really."

"?"

"This isn't a gift.."

Another awkward silence dawned over us, as her eyes wandered anxiously around the room; obviously feeling as uncomfortable as I was with the tense atmosphere.
