Family gatherings are both my favorite thing and my absolute worst nightmare. Every single person I care about, i stuck into the same room. But then I'm getting bullshit by my brother and younger cousin, Eric. Then there is Richard, well. Not really, he arranges these family gatherings but rarely bothers to show up himself.
That man is a workaholic and a horrible dad. Monica practically helped her mom raise her two younger siblings. I know I did a lot for Daniel, but Monica is on a whole other level. There is no wonder she ended up having a passion for dogs and breeding them for their health benefits. But why for God sake did she have to choose a husky? Those beasts scream so bad the whole neighborhood hears them, not to mention there are four of them in the neighborhood already. If one of them starts going at it, the rest of them will too.
I am never getting a dog. I think of myself more as a cat person, they are much more chill and you don't have to walk them every single day or clean up their mess when they shit inside your home. No, if I have a cat, I can paint my rocks peacefully while the cat is sleeping on my lap. That sounds way more like paradise than a screaming dog making my insides turn upside down. Talking of huskys, one of Monicas beloved girls are jumping onto my lap and licking my face. "Yuki, stop!" I say, pushing the giant white monster away from me. I look over at Monica who tries to hold her laugh to herself. "We are working on the jumping when excited thing she got going on," she says before command the dog to get outside. The dogs got a massive backyard for themselves, great for those dogs, really. "You really don't like dogs, do you?" She asks as she jumps back into the couch next to me. "I don't," I start. "I don't, don't like them, you know?" I say, watching as Yuki and it's sister, Okami runs around in the backyard, playing with each other. "I just don't want them up in my face," I say almost annoyed.
"You got attacked by a snow monster, too?" An unfamiliar voice. Really sweet, gentle. I look up from where the voice comes from and in front of me is a girl, she has to be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my entire life. Which is weird coming from my mouth, cause I usually don't really give a shit about love and relationships and hookups.
Look, I am no virgin. I have had a couple of one night stands, I even used to have a girlfriend in my late teen years. Turns out we wanted a whole lot different things, so I ended up ending things with her. She was a gorgeous girl, smart too. But we just weren't meant to be together.
But since then, I never bothered trying again. I figured I didn't want to end up going into a new trap, falling back into saving someone, or myself. Again.
But this girl, whatever i think of her, doesn't mather. "Emma, is it?" I say with a smile. she knods and take the empty seat next to Monica. Emma is Sandra's cousin. Sandra is my cousin. If I ever were to do anything with Emma, I'm sure my whole family would throw me away. But Daniel, as my gaze finds his, I see him staring at her until he realises I'm watching him and gives me a grin. I roll my eyes before I go back to my conversation. "How are you settling in?" I ask, trying to avoid my own thoughts, because to be quite frank, if I don't stop thinking about this, I might really sink deep.
The day went by faster and easier than I originally expected, Emma seems to be a good addition to the family. My mother likes her, the other parents like her. Elina has been chatting with her nonstop, as well as Sandra. Monica has mostly been explaining her future plans with the dogs, like she does every time I'm in the same room as her. Okami is hopefully have her first litter of pups next summer, which is exciting, I guess. I must admit, the puppies are a lot more fun than the grownups trying to make out with me. Ugh.
But unfortunately for me, Monica is my bestfriend and she owns two dogs. Those dogs needs walks, so I am therefore forced to join her on her walking journeys. "Sit, Yuki", I tell the giant ball of snow in front of me. Yuki is a gorgeous dog. She is big, but athletic. When most dogs like Yuki is black and white, like Okami and Monty, Yuki is pure white. Her eyes are oceon blue, her fur, white and fluffy. The only black markings on her body is around her eyes, snout and mouth area. Walking this dog during winter time, when the sun is down and the snow is around a meter, she'll jump into the snow and completly dissappear. Though the dogs freak me out from time to time, they truly are beautiful creatures. I just normally like to admire them from far away, instead of mouth to mouth.
"Any chance I could join your walk?" I turn around, looking at dark brown eyes staring right through me and right into my soul. Emma. I just stare at her and Monica ends up answearing yes for me.
Fuck.
