i feel so high school

every time i look at you

but then look at you.

NO ONE KNEW WHAT TO MAKE OF MEG.

And frankly, I couldn't blame them.

Chiron dispersed the crowd, urging everyone to put away their weapons. Since we were now under this 'buddy system' (Meg had raced off with her new siblings, leaving me alone alone with Y/N) I decided to look for her and prayed to the other eleven Olympians that I would not fall on my face in front of her.

"Meg's interesting," She said, suddenly appearing next to me, "Do you know where the You cabin is or do you need me to walk you back?"

"Uh- I- Ah-" I stammered. Gee, thanks, guys.

"Oh. You have... acne." Y/N noticed. Helpfully. As if I was not already fat and ugly.

I burned red. Yes, I realize that. "First time in four thousand years." I managed to say.

She laughed. "I can fix that. I've got a thing- at my cabin- Wait here," She instructed, then ran off to Cabin 10.

She came back a few minutes later holding a bag. Her free arm linked around mine, pulling me towards a small hill that sat near the cabins. "Come on. I'll fix your face."

I had nothing against a beautiful girl pulling me around, so I followed her, weaving around the other cabins and, even without complaining, towards the canoe lake. I silently forgave her for her insolence. Doesn't everyone know that water doesn't agree with me?

Y/N sat down on her knees at the top of the hill and gestured for me to do the same. "Lie down." She commanded, with a hint of charmspeak in her voice. I complied, putting my head in her lap as she stroked my hair and carefully placed drops of serum on my face. For the first time since I became mortal, things felt right. I have no idea how long I was on that hill, staring at the stars, but it must have been a long time, because Y/N had gone through what appeared to be a 17 step skincare routine with me.

"It'll clear by tomorrow." She reassured me. "If you really were kicked out of Olympus, you're gonna go through a lot worse than skin breakouts. It was the least I could do." She then pulled me into a hug. "Don't die."

I breathed her in and almost immediately regretted it. "Your perfume..."

"Hyacinth extract. Mum gave it to me for my birthday." She suddenly realized. "Oh. Shit. I'm so sorry- I forgot- I swear-"

"It's fine." I managed, tears welling in my eyes. For some absurd reason, Y/N wearing the scent of my previous lover somehow made me miss him a bit less, like this was the goodbye I never got. It made no sense at all.

"You should go back to your cabin. I imagine your children are starting to wonder where you went." She turned and headed back to her cabin.

This left me alone to make my way back to the Me cabin.

I lay on my sick cot in the middle of the room and stared at the ceiling beams. I thought again about what a depressingly simple, utterly mortal place this was. How did my children stand it? Why did they not keep a blazing altar, and decorate the walls with hammered gold reliefs celebrating my glory?

When I heard Will and the others coming back, I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. I could not face their questions or kindnesses, their attempts to make me feel at home when I clearly did not belong. As they came in the door, they got quiet.

"Is he okay?" whispered Kayla.

Austin said, "Would you be, if you were him?"

A moment of silence.
