"What if we mess up the time stream? Time police or some horrible thing could happen," Alexus had said.

"That's not how time works, darling, and the time police won't dare mess with yours truly," said Blackwood.

"You say that, but are you sure?" Alexus said.

"Definitely not," he replied.

"What about paradoxes or if—"

"I'll stop you right there, Alexus. If something horrible had happened to the timeline over a million years ago, don't you think we wouldn't be here right now?" he said.

"Counter-argument: we have to be here first to destroy the timeline," Alexus struck back.

"Touché, Alexus, touché," Blackwood remarked.

"Last time we time traveled, you fought a dragon with Theodore Roosevelt on your 'Great Tarasque Hunt of '83,'" Alexus said.

"We all had a splendid time. There may have been a few mishaps here and there, but that's what the hunt's about," Blackwood said with a grin.
