"ok then, what about kevin?" bella asked, lounging on her bed, her blond hair spread out like a halo on her pink pillow. her room, a shrine to all things feminine, was a stark contrast to her twin sister's darker, grunge aesthetic.
"no, I heard he sleeps with any girl he can," eileen responded, crinkling her nose in distaste. she adjusted herself on the fluffy pink rug, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the floral patterns on bella's duvet. "and he kinda freaks me out."
"ok, then, what about matthew?" bella asked, not missing a beat. she was determined to find eileen a suitable match among the boys at their university.
eileen sighed, considering the options. "matthew's nice, I guess, but I heard he'd ghost girls after awhile.. like, I'm not sure if I could handle that." bella sighed, her perfectly manicured fingers twirling a lock of her hair. "yeah, that could get annoying. but at least he's cute."
the two of them continued to chatter about the various boys they knew, eileen half-heartedly participating. her mind kept wandering to bella's twin sister, billie.
billie was the complete opposite of bella in every way-dark hair with streaks of red, a few tattoos, a nose ring, and a wardrobe that consisted mostly of baggy clothing.
billie was into skateboarding and staying out late with her friends, often coming home at odd hours. eileen had a secret crush on billie, a fact she hadn't dared to share with anyone, especially not bella.
just then, they heard the front door open and close, followed by the familiar sound of chatter and laughter. eileen's heart skipped a beat.
"she always comes back home so late," eileen said, trying to sound annoyed rather than excited. "it's midnight." bella shrugged, rolling her eyes. "that's billie for you. always out with her friends."
"wanna go get a snack in the kitchen?" eileen suggested, hoping for a chance to see billie. "I guess I could snack on a little something," bella agreed, standing up from her bed. eileen followed her, trying to keep her excitement in check.
