My name is Maire Cordelia Hansley and this is my story. I woke up from my bed. I can tell dad is having a hard time with figuring out which way is North and which way is South. The reason why he can't tell is because it's morning and his very old compass is very old and very broken. He broke it while going to South America and coming back to Suelva .
We are not from England, we were just “visiting” in reality our home was getting rebuilt from a fire that started after getting treasure from india. A war. That's what had started, but since then the war has stopped getting to the point, his compass is extremely old. Before breakfast starts I decide to check if any one else is awake. When I went to go check, I could hear a little girl's voice. It's Ava. Ava is my dads first mates daughter, she is a 6 year old girl with brown medium length hair and blue eyes she is like a little sister to me she has been since she was born i already know when i walk into that room Ava and any other kid that is awake will say “Good morning Miss Maire!”
So I have to prepare myself. And just as I expected, but except for 4 or 3 kids all the kids say “Good morning Miss Maire!” Shocked, I say “well good morning all of you!”
“ What are all of you doing up so early!?”“We wanted to see the sun rise so we snuck out of our room early to see the sun rise!” I look at them shocked as they are saying this. I hear another kid say “shush!”
“Don't say shush it's okay, right Miss Maire?” said Ava “yeah that's fine just don't let captain Hansley find out, okay?”
“okay!” they all yelled, making my eardrums sore. “Okay now get ready tonight we are celebrating The Sailor of the Shadows ” I say “wait Ava, where is your big brother?”“Oh I think he is above deck remember he just turned 14,” replied Ava “wait what's your brother's name again?” One of the children asked.
“oh his name is Dylan” it's a tradition to work above deck once you turn 14! But it's not a tradition for everyone, for women instead of being able to work under deck they have to help with breakfast and help organize the ship to be honest, I just wanted breakfast. At this point i was daydreaming about goat milk and eggs, hey trust me its good. Don't knock it till you try it. The children noticed this so instead of talking about Dylan they started talking about breakfast. “Well children we better start getting dressed, tonight we are having a party for the sailor of the shadows.”
“Who's the sailor of the shadows?”they must've not heard me the first time. Well, they are six year olds, you can't expect the whole world.
“Hmm how about you all get dressed and I will tell you a story.” It's about ten minutes later and we are finally sailing smoothly. The kids decided before I started telling them the story they wanted to get comfy so that's exactly what they did. I started the story”A long long time ago there was a pirate, who was a captain named Henry he was one of the best pirates in the world, but one day while he was out at sea he saw this purple glow coming from far away he thought this path would lead to gold, little did he know this would be the biggest mistake of his life.”“Why? What happened, Miss Marie?!”
“Well he felt the need for greed and glory and the rest of his crew didn't agree with him. But he didn't listen to everyone and his need for great glory cost him his life.” After telling them that I felt as though they felt scared yet curious.
“What happened to him, Miss Marie..?” Ava had asked.
“No one knows what actually happened to Henry. Some people say that he was cursed by a witch. Some other people say his ship sank killing everyone and everything on it. Anyway, shall I sing you a song?” I had asked
After some singing and dancing every one was ready to get into bed. Before I went to bed I had bumped into someone “oh sorry” I could recognize that faint British accent from anywhere.
“Dylan what has my dad told you about roaming around at night.”
“I know but what are you doing, roaming around at night.”
“I'm on my way to tuck in the kids.”
“Alrighty then I'll be on my way now.”
“Fine.”
I swear every night he somehow gets on my nerves, but I couldn't help but wonder where he was going. No point in stopping now I was right behind the childrens door. I opened the door and I was surprised to see that the children were asleep. “Alright then guess I better go to bed” but something was telling me not to, to go see what Dylan was up to. Once I got to his room he wasn't there. I knew there was one more place I could check. The bar. He comes here when he needs to think. Right when I walked in I saw our bartender, and guess who I saw right next to him. Dylan. He had a bottle of rum right next to him. And it was half full which means he had drunk a lot.
“ Don't drink that!” I had said “ you aren't the boss of me, Marron”
“What are you doing here?”
“Isn't it obvious? I'm here for a drink.” I looked back at the bottle of rum “you haven't drank a day of your life!” I am getting really worried now.
“Look, I know there is something you aren't telling me, you might as well tell me now.”
He did a look. It was the same jealous look he had given his crush, Hazel last year. “You aren't answering me!” he must've felt bad because the next thing came to me as a shock. He had started sobbing. “I am sorry, I'm not a good friend!” Dylan has never cried in his life. I knew something was up. “It's Hazel isn't it.” He nodded back “I know something that will get that off your mind.” he chuckled while wiping away his tears “And what is that?” I must've zoned out because I forgot what I was doing because after a minute I heard Dylan again.
