ZELIA

Flickers of water woke me up from the dreamless sleep I had fallen into while waiting for Leo at Miss Denver's house.

Opening my eyes,I saw Leo looming over me with a cup of water in his hand, and it appeared that he was debating drenching me with the remaining water while looking at me pensively.

Before he could act on it, I sat forward and rubbed my eyes, forgetting I had mascara on. With a sigh, I attempt to get up from the sofa to fix myself up in the bathroom, but I'm barricaded in by Leo's figure.

"Are you planning to move out of the way any time soon? I say plainly.

"We need to talk." He states as he seats himself beside me.

Oh.

Apprehension began to gather in me as I started to race through all the possibilities of what this could be about. I hadn't even been in Ravenwood for more than twenty-four hours, and he had me questioning myself again already.

His voice pulls my attention back to him as he pushes the strand of hair that had fallen into his face backwards.

"I'm leaving for New York tonight, which means that you can't stay here."

Looking at him deadpan, my voice drips with sarcasm. "Is that all you wanted to say?"

His flair for dramatics was starting to rile me up; he nearly gave me an aneurysm.

Leo's posture shifted towards me, and it turns out that there was something he was going to add. "There are certain people who want to hurt you."

Huh.

The only emotion on my face at this point had to be confusion as I stared at him, perplexed.

"Leo,I hate to say it, but you're not making sense to me right now. What do you mean by 'certain people'?"

I wait.

Wait for a couple of minutes in dead silence.

Wait for Leo to explain what he means before I jump to any conclusions as the weight of his words begins to settle in.

His body shifts towards me as he states with calmness, "Sarah didn't just die of old age; she was murdered right here, and I'm positive that you might be next."

The thought of Miss Denver being killed in her home made bile rise up my throat. "Why's that?" I ask with a straight face as I attempt to keep my cool.

"I don't know."

How can he not know? I was blatantly being lied to by a conniving prick and was debating the ways I could murder him in his sleep.

Unfortunately, the list was short and lacking in creativity. I'd have to get my thinking cap on after this.

After a couple of moments of dead silence,Leo gets up and walks to the door. Once reaching it, he turns around and faces me with a dumbfounded look.

"What now?" I ask.

"I'm leaving now, which means so are you."

Cocking my head sideways, I tried to think about what must've gone wrong to make him so heartless. He had just told me I was apparently in imminent danger and was now kicking me out.

"I want a ride to the airport." I state as I brush past him, through the door, and towards the taxi he must've called while I was sleeping.

It was the least he could do.
