Sakthi
I was discharged after four days from the day I awoke. I initially experienced dizziness, wobbliness, and shortness of breath, but this gradually subsided and I was back to normal after two months. I began catching up on my classes a month after the accident and gradually caught up on my coursework. We all settled into a routine.
Thatha or Dada would stay at home to work, while Jithu would pay me frequent visits and take me outside on dates. We decided to have an intimate wedding only with our relatives, with all the rituals and a grand reception.
Our wedding date has been set for the fourth week of November, and the wedding reception will be held two days later at Jithu's beach resort in ECR. I took my final exam online two days ago, and the results will be available within three to four weeks.
On an auspicious day, we went to a shop recommended by Jithu to buy a muhurtham saree. Jithu has already been waiting for us with his family, including my appa, mother, my brother and Harish Athan. Kayal and my sister stayed at home to look after the children. Jithu opened the passenger door for me, hugged me tightly, and kissed my head.
Siva Anna drew me closer to him and mocked Jithu. "Dei mapla vidu avala, kalyanathuku aparam katipudikalam. Adhuku munnadi onnum illa."
Jithu murmured "katti matuma pudichen ellamey panen. Ippo vandhu kalyanathuku aparam katipudikalam nu solraru. Yen akka ipdi poi loosu ta emadhruchey."
Harish Athan choked on the words and smacked him on the back. "Dei engalukkum theriyum nee enna pannanu. Yedho pavam, ava hospital la irukapo aludhu valinja, enga ponna nalla pathukuranu, appo appo avala paka vitrukom, ilata kalyanam anikidha straight ah pathrupa."
Twirling up his moustache, Jithu commented, "Pakka viteengla? vidamadha irundhu parungalen? thookitu poirupen."
Siva Anna twirled down his moustache. "Mapla avlo scene ellam illa da unaku. Theva illama pesadha, ippo va ulla polam. Illana kalyanatha oru varusham thalli potruven."
"Athan edho akka purushana poitiyenu mariadha tharen."
Siva Anna placed his hand on Jithu's shoulder as they walked towards the boutique, and I followed them, hearing their conversations. "Sari da sari da, va polam podava eduka. Ama indha beard kalyanathuku atleast edukura idea iruka illa anikum ipdi dhana?"
"En athan nalla ilaya? Enaku rombha naala asa valakanumnu, ippo dha police ilala, adhan valakuren. Sakthi sonna eduthara vendiadhu dha mama."
"Kalyanahtuku munadiye yen thangachi ku nalla jalra podra da. Nalla varuva da."
"Adhula ellam oru sandhosham iruku athan. Ungalukku enga puria pogudhu. Enga vittu kodukanum, enga iruki pudikanumnu enaku theriyum, ungala madri makku illa na."
"Dei dei nee odaney A rated ah yosika start panadha. Po poi saree paru. "
Thatha and Dada sat to my left, while Jithu gave me an air kiss and settled into a chair to my right. My mother and Saranya Aunty stood behind us. Everyone else scattered around the boutique, looking for dresses for themselves.
My thatha told the salesperson, "Red, yellow, and green colour la muhurtha saree katunga."
They began to show sarees and soon the atmosphere quickly turned chaotic as we could not decide on a single saree. If I liked a saree for its colour, Jithu disliked the design, and vice versa. When we both liked something, the parents refused it, citing family tradition or a dislike for the design, pattern, or other aspect. It is almost lunchtime, and we have not even shortlisted a single saree.
