I awoke with a cry… the memories of the accident haunting my dreams… I take a couple of deep breaths as I try and calm my pounding heart, once I´ve calmed down I climb out of my boat, only to hear a slashing noise and fox whimpers. I walk over to the river only to find a Mama Cape fox trying to get her baby unstuck from my net, it must of tried to catch one of the fish that where swimming over it… I slowly crept over to the Mama and baby… ¨hey there… your okay, I promise that I just want to help…¨ I try to make my voice soft and least intimidating as possible. I crept closer and got down on my knees, slowly taking out my trusty pocket knife and using it to gently cut the baby fox free… ¨ẗhere you go little fella, isn't that so much better…?¨ I tried being as gentle as possible with the frightened animals and when they were out of the way, I pulled the net up, bringing three White Sturgeon fish up with it; I gentle toss two of the fish over to the fox pair… watching them slowly start to sniff the fish before they start eating it, the Mama nuzzled my leg like a sweet cat, melting my heart, so I give her my other fish. I use my net to catch five more fish, I clean and filet them before using my pocket knife to slice them into thin quarter inch strips, I use some more wisteria to tie some of the sticks I collected to the boat, making a spot for the fish to dry, I carefully hang the fish and head on my way, the fox pair following closely behind. After what felt like twenty minutes of walking, the wind started to pick up, suddenly I remembered something… ¨Shoot! I forgot to purify some water!¨ I said while looking thru my small backpack when, ¨WHAM!!!¨ The wind harshly shoves a branch into my face. I can feel warm blood trickle down from my nose as I fall to the ground, my long silky blue skirt getting snagged by my stumbling feet in the process, ripping a porion of it, ¨ah s***¨ the neck of my oversized turtle neck sweater begins to get soaked in the blood from my nose and my vision begins to get blurry, as the world spins and slants I can hear a loud whimper from the Mama and baby fox. I lay on the ground for awhile as I feel around for my backpack, but instead I find something else, it feels flat and rectangular, but i´m unable to tell what it is so I put it aside for later. I can hear something get dragged thru the dirt and plants towards me and the baby cape fox climbs onto my chest. The Mama cape fox drags my backpack to me, using her mouth to do so. I search thru my backpack to try and find my bandages, only able to rely on my sense of feeling to find them; I eventually find my home make bandages and bottle of salt water, I pour a bit of the water onto my nose, praying that its not broken, and wrap the bandages around my face. As I rest the adrenaline from the pain starts to wear off and my vision starts to return to my left eye, a searing pain goes though where my right eye is; I lift my bandaged hand to my eye, feeling something warm and when I pull my hand back the white cloth of my make shift bandaids are stained with blood and I feel something… dangling… ¨o- oh god! I- I think im going to be sick!¨ I gagged and vile threatened to rise from my throat as I realized that My eye was hanging out of the socket, my literal eye!!! I wanted to cry and scream, but I knew that it would do me no good, so I take a shaky breath and fix it as best as I can, bandaging that side of my face off. I shakily stand up and realize that both of the foxes are now inside my boat with my backpack and firewood, I grab a big branch from the ground to use to help me walk, having to use it in my nondominant hand due to my left hand still being burnt and bandaged. I continued walking when i saw a hazy shape in the distance that looked like two mountains, so I start walking towards them, a limp in my step, ¨MM!¨ I bit the inside of my cheek to stop me from letting out a cry. After what seemed like two hours I made it half way up one of the mountains, hitting snow, but the sun starts to set, setting my boat in a stable spot and climbed into it. I rummaged thru my small backpack grabbing some of the blackberries, plums, and apples from it, as well as grabbing some of the dried white surgeon fish; I give some of the fish and blackberries to the Mama and baby fox and start to eat one of the juice plums. I fill my now both empty water bottles up with snow, as well as my metal cup, using them to ice my wounds. After we eat, I cuddle up with the foxes and fall into a restless sleep, the only sound around is the wind and the two foxes snoring…
