Standing outside the shop I instantly regret every life decision I've ever made.

"I could go without pay for a couple days. I've got better things to do." I say to myself. I turn away from the store and start to walk away.

I turn back around and walk to the butcher shop "Serial killers are possibly on the loose. You could be a hero Rico Santiago."

Note to self: If I die blame the Captain.

I open the door to the smell of raw meet. "How can I help you?" a young female said from behind the counter.

Possible serial killer number one.

I must've been standing there long because next thing I know she taps all the knives on the wall with her silver ring.

"Don't ever do that again, that's really loud." I say rubbing my ear. "Don't tell me what to do in my store." She crosses her arms trying to be intimidating.

Little bitch

"Now answer my question, how can I help you." She says annoyed.

"I'm here for a job." I hand her a resume I had crumpled in my back pocket.

"Why is it crumpled?" She asks trying to straighten the paper out.

"I was in a rush this morning. Now when can I start?" I put my hands in my jacket pockets.

"Why the hell should I hire you? And don't give me the I'm a hard worker, I'm responsible, and I'll work whenever you need me." She says mockingly, like she's heard those answers a million times.

"I need a job, I'm not spineless so I can handle the blood, and I'll cover your shifts if you ever need me to. So am I hired?" I stick my hand above the glass divider for this girl to shake it.

She looks at my hand like I'm below her. Then she looks back at the crumpled resume.

"Do you have any experience working with raw meat?" She says folding up the resume. I put my hand back in my pocket.

Is she giving it back? Did I fuck up the case before it even started? FUCK!

"If I say no will I still have the job?" That's right Rico keep it cool.

"Don't get your panties in a twist about it, we need a new dishwasher anyway. You'll just clean the knives and not really touch the meat unless you cover my shift. So, I guess you have the job." She says walking away from the counter and towards the back.

YES! Rico does it again.

Wait did she say dishwasher?

"Come on back and I'll get you situated." She walks into the back room and I follow.

Guess I'm a dishwasher now.
