Shifty x Splendont Fanfic

Introduction

"C'mon Lift, just grab it and go!"

The two brothers grabbed the bags of money and tried to run. It was only a moment of time before Splendid would be at the scene to stop them, and this time he wouldn't let them get away with it. Shifty especially was afraid of prison life, since he didn't quite have the same strength and fighting experience as Lifty. He was more so the brains in the operation, always clever and manipulative. He loved to talk, whether it was to gloat about their glory or to scare the victims of their thievery. Lifty was merely a follower, he couldn't survive without Shifty. Shifty strung him along with that mindset, convincing him to stay with him in the operations. They only had each other after all, since the beginning really. Sure they had their parents and the gang when they were younger, but even then they were never apart. No matter how bad a fight got, they never separated. Even then, it was always Shifty who started the fight. He never apologized for it, but still got Lifty to stay by his side. Shifty never wanted to admit it, but Shifty didn't have much without Lifty just as he didn't have anything outside of Shifty.

The twins eventually struggled their way to the entrance. It was late at night so no one was in the building, but the alarms would have woken up the entire town. They both were carrying more bags than their little arms could carry and they were slowly balancing the piles in their arms. Shifty was noticeably struggling to hold them up, so Lifty dropped his stack for a moment and took one of Shifty's bags. He was about to yell at him for it, but before he could the glass from the front was shattered. They both looked up and saw a figure floating in the air, illuminated from the street lights outside. When the red lights from the alarms finally spun around, the figure was revealed to be Splendid. Simultaneously, Lifty and Shifty dropped their bags and bolted back to the back of the bank, but not before they each grabbed one of the bags.

"Which way do we go? I don't remember seeing a side exit!" Lifty shouted in a panic. He was glancing around in a frenzy.

Shifty scanned the hall, tightly grasping the bag. "I don't know, they should have a fire escape somewhere." His anxiety continued to rise each moment he didn't see a door.

Lifty ran further into the corridor. "Over here Shifty! I found it."

Adrenaline slowed in his veins and his breath steaded. Shifty swung the bag over his shoulder and ran over to Lifty's voice. He slammed his arm into the handle, but it didn't open. His heart sank at the realization. Part of the alarm system must've included locking all exits. Lifty shoved him out of the way and dropped the bag in his hand. He repeatedly slammed his shoulder into the door, hoping to break the lock, but it didn't release its hold. Shifty was watching the corridor the entire time, with a part of his sanity breaking each time he heard Lifty ram the door.

"Just break the lock already Lift! The bank can't have that strong of metal for the door, especially in this shit town."

"I'm trying, the door's just not giving in." He was breathing heavily, barely spouting out the words.

Shifty could only glance between the hallway and Lifty, who was now leaning on the door trying to catch his breath. He heard Splendid turning over furniture looking for them and he was getting closer to them. Without a second thought he grabbed Lifty by the arm and drug him into an office. Shifty climbed onto one of the desks and demanded Lifty climb up too so he could lift him up to the popcorn ceiling. Lifty did as he was told and Shifty broke one of the tiles open with ease. He pulled himself into the ceiling and told Lifty to throw the bags of money up. Lifty ran out, grabbed the two bags they managed to take with them, and threw them up. Afterwards he held up his hand and Shifty grabbed his wrist, managing to pull him into the ceiling as well. He slid the cover back on and gestured for Lifty to follow him over to the front of the building.
