Two knocks was all Johnny needed to head straight for the front door. He continued to dry his hair with his towel as he walked out of his room. Along the way, he passed by a focused Doyoung, who had no intention of opening the door.
"The least you could do is open the door for your girlfriend." Johnny said to him. He looked out the peephole to confirm his suspicions.
"I would but I'm busy." Johnny shook his head at Doyoung's response before opening the door. Yeona stood outside, a bright smile on her face.
Doyoung glanced at her briefly, "Hey babe."
"Hi hi!" Yeona greeted back, walking inside. She was excited to finally spend an afternoon with her boyfriend after weeks of not seeing each other. She turned to Johnny, who stared at her while slowly rubbing his blue towel on his head.
"Hey Johnny, something wrong?"
"A lot, actually." Yeona tried not to expose her smile when Johnny walked back to his room, "First of all, I'm late to meet up with Ten so I already know I'm fucked, and not in a good way. Second of all, why did you choose the most boring, monotonous guy to date from the group? You might as well date a brick wall."
"He's not boring!" Yeona defended, she peeked over at Doyoung, hoping he didn't find Johnny's words offensive. But Doyoung didn't seem phased at all. His eyes were glued to his laptop screen, seemingly unaware of everything around him.
Yeona didn't consider Doyoung boring. Everything was magical in her eyes when they first started dating. He'd take her out on dates, surprising her every now and then. They had a very balanced relationship.
Few months into the summer break was when everything started to shift, even more now that school started. Hearing from him less, he even missed a class that week. Still, she never saw a problem with him, though some of her friends clearly disagree.
"Uh huh, you keep telling yourself that." Johnny replied as he put on a jean jacket. He slipped on his shoes and headed towards the front door, "Anyways I'm heading out, you guys be good. No funny business."
"Oh shut up." Yeona giggled nervously, shooing Johnny out the door. She turned to Doyoung, expecting a similar reaction to hers. His eyes were still attached to his screen as if he hadn't heard a single thing for the past five minutes.
Yeona cleared her throat and pulled up a chair beside Doyoung, "So, have you started on the lecture notes yet? Our professor posted the chapters online leading to the midterm. This year is not going to be any easier than the last."
"Oh right, the notes... I haven't started yet. I'm still looking for more places to apply." Doyoung typed frantically on his keyboard, "A family friend gave me a recommendation to this one place so I'm going to try it. So many places, so little time."
Doyoung looked over at Yeona before remembering something, "Oh right." He leaned towards her, placing a small kiss on her lips. He smiled her way before tuning back to his resume.
The sudden move made the girl heat up, her eyes round. She tried to play it cool seeing him move on from it so simply as if he didn't cause her stomach to flip many times. "Little time? What do you mean? You do know there's a grace period after we graduate, right?"
"Yes I'm aware Ye, but I need to find a place with better pay. The more I earn the faster I can get this over with." He took a long swig from the bottle of water on the table, it'd been a while since he drank up and felt extremely dehydrated.
Of course he knew there was a grace period, everyone knew that. But that wasn't the issue. He needed to save up, the few thousands he already had from the past few months weren't enough.
