The golden sun hovered close to the horizon, just waiting for the right moment to set. Soft wind carried the lively sound of laughter around, along with quiet chatter from passing families as they made their way inside the movie theatre on this fall evening.
The wind whistled past the three boys who stood by the entrance, yet with all the noise around, it still couldn't drown out the irritating chewing coming from Doyoung.
"Can you stop smacking your gum like that?" Taeyong stared at him, "It's been more than twenty minutes, how does it not taste like shit yet."
Doyoung shrugged, continuing to chew on his gum, "I dunno, still tastes fine to me."
"They're going to show up, Doyoung." Jungwoo put his hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry."
Jungwoo reassured him, assuming he was stressed. The three had been standing outside the movie theatre for what felt like thirty minutes. Since then, they hadn't gotten word from the small group they were meeting up with.
"I'm not worried about it." Doyoung replied, pushing his hair back.
"You're not worried that Yeona hasn't responded to anyone's messages?" Taeyong raised a brow.
"I'm sure she's fine, she's with the others."
"I wouldn't exactly say Mark and Haechan are two people to completely rely on." Jungwoo said, scratching the back of his head.
Doyoung didn't respond, instead unlocking his phone to pass the time. Probably checking his email for the hundredth time.
Taeyong and Jungwoo glanced a look at each other. There was a lot being said without anything being said at all.
"Come on already! Just leave it."
The two turn their heads immediately hearing a voice so similar to Mark's. It indeed was, seeing the two boys trying to drag Yeona with them down the sidewalk.
"But the flowers! Let me get my flower!"
"Forget the flower, you're the reason why we're late!"
Jungwoo nudged the boy beside him, "They made it."
Doyoung turned towards their direction, watching the two boys pull a slightly ditzy but giggly girl away from a planted garden bed on the side of the path.
She attempted to use all her strength to pry the boys away, only Haechan able to get a strong grip on her arm as she leaned forward.
"My shoulder is about to pop out, get up motherfu—" The boy stopped himself midway, giving up on the girl altogether.
She quickly plucked a flower out the ground and straightened out her posture. She bounced back on the sidewalk as she showed them the flower she got. Though they seemed unamused.
"Is she okay?" Jungwoo asked, starting to feel odd about her behaviour. He hadn't seen her like this before and it was a bit concerning.
"No, something is definitely wrong." Taeyong replied, also feeling eerie. He looked over at Doyoung, expecting to see him with concern written on his face.
The boy instead seemed relaxed, not seeing an issue. He popped his chewed out gum for the last time, stuffing his phone back into his pocket just as the three finally joined them.
"Hey guys." Mark greeted, seeming exhausted.
Yeona on the other hand grinned brightly, waving at them, "Hi! Hey! Such nice weather we're having! Hope we're not late! Hi Doyo! Jungwoo!"
Jungwoo moved to reply, wearing a confused smile, "H—"
"What did you guys do to her?"
The two boys flinched at Taeyong's cold voice interrupting Jungwoo from barely uttering a full word. Mark, who had a hand over Yeona's wrist, immediately dropped it, letting Haechan take full responsibility for the girl.
