THE SUDDEN RING OF A phone sliced through the silence that settled between the Winchesters and Kinsey, sharply pulling her back to reality. A soft gasp escaped her lips as her gaze darted about to find the source of the interruption.
Dean, still sitting beside her, had noticed the startled breath that left her, his brows knitting together in concern as his eyes flicked up toward her, asking a silent question that hung in the air. Kinsey was quick to respond with a subtle shake of her head, silently telling him she was okay.
Sam soon realised it was his phone that was ringing, his face breaking into a frown at the realisation. He quickly snatched it up and flipped it open, as a weary "Hello?" tumbled from his lips. The exhaustion in his voice was palpable, causing Kinsey's heart to tighten in her chest.
The blonde could easily pick up on the fatigue that laced his tone, she knew him as well as she knew herself. It was obvious that his lack of sleep was now starting to affect him, each day that passed was a harsh reminder that the woman he had loved was now gone.
Kinsey's eyes locked onto his fatigued figure lying on the bed, and she gnawed at the inside of her bottom lip. She wished that he'd just confide in her, allow her to shoulder some of the burden that he carried alone. She just wanted to help, but she couldn't do that until he let her in, which it didn't seem like he would do any time soon.
