DARKNESS. IT WAS ALL AROUND. Faint lines from the trees were showing and the only source of light I had was from the full moon. I ran as fast as my feet could carry me, each step felt foreign. It felt like I had been running for hours ever since my mother left me out here in the woods to fend for myself.
We were out hunting a pack together and she just upped and left me. Who knows what creatures are hiding in the shadows around here? Well I mean I do but... The only source of protection I have is my silver dagger. I can hold my own, but against a whole pack by myself, I might not make it home for dinner tonight.
I continued to run, but I heard a noise coming from behind me. A growl. Crap. I gripped my dagger hard and felt the leather handle against my palm. I looked around and saw nothing. The next thing I know my body is colliding with a rough tree. It scrapped my arms and I let out a hiss.
I looked at the wolf who was on top of me. He had yellow eyes. Good, a beta. Easy to kill. I gripped his biceps which were holding me tight and twisted them back. He let go of me and fell back with a yell.
"Don't you know it's not nice to sneak up on a lady like that?" I said to him. He then lunged at me. Guess someone's not in a talkative mood today. I dodged his attack and kicked him in the back of the leg. He fell to the ground, back facing me. I took my dagger and stabbed him in the back. He let out a large howl.
"Thanks a lot, now you just alerted your whole pack where you are because you couldn't fight a girl." I heard rustling behind me and fast footsteps. Multiple. You know what, I'm going home. My mother can deal with this problem because she made this mess, once again. Karmas a bitch.
I started to run out of the woods and make my way home. I debated running away, but knowing my mother she probably put some weird spy chip in me and I'd probably be blown up by her if I turned in the wrong direction. So I decided to return to Momzilla for today.

I opened the front door to the little house that me and my mom have been living in, and saw her packing bags in the living room. She was on the phone with someone and she must not have noticed me. "No, I can't bring her you know what will happen if I do." The person on the other end of the line said something but I couldn't make it out. "She'll be fine, it's dangerous there and I can't have my plan being messed up because of her."
"Mom?" She looked at where I was standing and immediately hung up the phone. I forgot about how angry I was when she left me in the woods for a minute when I heard her on the phone. Was my mother talking about me? What plans? Where is she going? But then I remembered how angry I was a second ago, about my mom leaving me to die. I wouldn't have actually died. But still!
"What the hell! You left me in the dark woods with a pack and nothing but one dagger! I could've died!" She just looked at me with no remorse or emotion as always.
"But you didn't. You should be perfectly capable of protecting yourself from one lousy pack. You've been slipping up and you need to get back to training. Bigger things are coming."
"What are you even talking about?! Normal mothers don't leave their children in the woods! Maybe you need to take some classes on how to be a normal parent because clearly—" she cut me off with a slap to my face. "Do not speak to your mother like that!"
I wasn't that shocked. Stuff like this happens almost normally. I was wrong trying to argue with her. My mother always thinks she's right and won't hear anything else. My head turned to the left of the room from her slap. In the corner, I saw a black duffel bag with guns, bullets, arrows, and wolfsbane. There were also other bags with clothes. She must be going somewhere.
"Where are you going?" I asked her, my voice was confident even after I was just slapped by my mother. I would never let her see me weak. "On a hunting trip." She walked over to her bags and started to zip them up. "Your Uncle Chris needs my help back in Beacon Hills." She finished her sentence and put on her coat.
"Let me come with you, I can hel—"
"No. I can do this alone. It'll be quick I'll be back in a couple of weeks maybe longer." My mother is just so confusing sometimes. She always makes me train every day and puts me in life-or-death situations to make me more skilled. And she won't even let me come with her on a "quick" trip!
She made her way over to the door and opened it. "Mom! You're just leaving right now! Why can't I help!" She almost just left, but she looked like she had forgotten something. She pulled a necklace out of her pocket. It was beautiful, an amber stone with silver patterns on the top, and a silver chain. My mind was racing, I had a million questions but as I was about to speak she cut me off.
She started to walk toward me and went behind me to put the necklace on. "What is this, you're being so confusing right now!"
"Never take this necklace off do you hear me? If anything happens you leave it on." She looked at me with that look that I hate. The one that tells me she knows something that I don't and is taunting me with it.
"Why! What is it?! Please just let me come with you and we can talk in the car!" She ignored me and just started to walk out the door. "Mom!" I tried so hard to get her to turn around but she acted like I wasn't there. "Mom!" I was about to call out for her again but she turned around and said something to me.
"Mira. Always remember our lessons."
"Wha—"
"Sometimes people aren't who they say they are. Who knows, you could be a totally different person."
And with that, she walked out and shut the door behind her.
A/N- prologue is done! I wanted to give a little backstory from when Kate left for Beacon Hills. If this totally sucks just let me know this is my first story! I'm open to any advice! Hope you enjoyed it!
