chapter four | you weren't a last resort | 💜

EMILIE:
out of everyone in our class, georgia has to be my favourite and i don't really like her. but i know i need to apologise for making her feel like shes a last resort.
i was going to just say it there and then but i get interrupted by miss kaley.
"okay everyone, silence whilst i do the register"
after two minutes shes done.
"okay, so for the first week, we're meant to be doing worksheets for the first lesson of the day, to get you settled into year 11. but, i think you guys should settle just fine, so for the first hour, you can talk, read, do the worksheets if you want to or you can listen to some music through headphones if you want. i wouldn't allow phones and music, but i want you to feel calm for your first week of year 11. if i hear any music, i will ask you to put your phone and headphones away and you can spend the rest of the lesson doing one of the other activities. off you go"
georgia reaches for her bag and grabs her headphones, but when she reaches for her phone in her blazer, she drops the headphones. i go grab them for her.
"thanks"
"no problem. and i'm sorry if i made you feel like a last resort earlier, i didn't mean it like that. you weren't a last resort."
"it's fine"
she puts her headphones on, and she pulls up a playlist which i look at. no way she listens to my favourite song? she puts on 'i like the way you kiss me' and sits there and pulls out her little mirror. she checks her makeup. how does someone's makeup look so flawless? i need her advice.

- time skip to first lesson.-

the bell goes and i make my way to my first lesson; religious studies.
our teacher welcomes us in and says the seating plan is on the board, and we just need to sit down.
what.
why.
why am i sat next to georgia again??
i huff and go to my seat. i sit down and put my pencil case infront of me.
georgia walks in and looks at the board. she doesn't look pleased either. glad to know the feeling is mutual. she sits next to me and gets her pencil case out.
"okay everyone, have we found our seats okay? alright. so this term we're focusing on philosophy from a christian perspective"
i zone out for the rest of the explanation of the topic until a book lands infront of me.

-time skip to midway through.-

"i want you to turn to your partner and talk about your views. the question is, if god wasn't real, how was the earth made and how did everything come to be? you have ten minutes to discuss and write down you and your partner's answers.

i start off by saying "err, i think the big bang theory is the most likely reason for the creation of the earth, but i don't know how everything on earth came to be"
"mhm" georgia says and she writes down what i just said and so do i.

georgia turns to me and says "i know a lot about the big bang. i was really interested in it last year, it's the initiation of the ongoing expansion of the universe from a state of high density and temperature, life would've formed because of a process of the expansion and the explosion, hydrogen gas was created which then led to the formation of stars, and there death which i think is called a supernova, and that led to the creation of life"
"oh- wow. yours is explained so much better." i awkwardly laugh and ask her to repeat so i can write it down.

-after a few more minutes the teacher calls on georgia and emilie.-

"wow georgia, brilliant explanation. anything you want to add emilie? or what did you say"
"err i said the big bang is the most likely explanation??"
"well done to you too emilie"

-time skip to the end of the lesson.-
the bell goes and its break. i go to look for my friends everywhere but i can't find them. i can't even find harper. i go to the student support centre and knock when miss green invites me in.
"that's both of you ive seen today in one morning! what can i do for you em?"
"georgia came here too? when? why?"
"this morning before form, she wanted to move classes i think"
"oh."
"anyways sweet why are you here?"
"i cannot find harps, noah or katy anywhere"
"well we had to send harper home, she fell asleep again, she says she's been having trouble sleeping again so we sent her home to rest. noah and katy have transferred to middlelake grammar, did you not know?"
"they did what? they didn't tell me??"
i am so angry right now. two of my best friends moved schools and they didn't bother telling me?
i pull out my phone to text them, i don't care about getting told off. i need answers.
"em why are you on your phone?"
"i'm getting answers. why would they leave and just not say anything?"
"okay sweet well just face away from the door so no other teachers see"
"okay"
"oh and tell harper if she gets one more detention for sleeping shes at risk of being permanently excluded"
"what?"
"i know, since last year her increase in detentions have gone up massively, all for the same reasons; so if she gets another one after today for falling asleep shes at risk of a permanent exclusion"
"so none of my friends are here today?"
"sorry emilie but no"
i say bye and walk out. what the hell am i supposed to do with nobody here to talk to?

hiya! this story is going so well, i just think i'll tell you now, the character georgia is based off of me, apart from the age, friends and school. i wanted to incorporate many of my characteristics into her as best as i could.
