1 | why couldn't it be easy?

I groaned as I attempted to rush past the sweaty, slowly moving bodies in the stuffy school hallways. I quickly squeezed in past people, uttering swift apologies. "I'm so sorry!" I called out to the poor brunette girl I practically pushed over.

I speed walked past the blue-grey lockers and rushed towards the back doors leading out towards the football pitch where cheer practice was taking place.

I sighed a sigh of relief when I finally spotted my friends, and then groaned once again when I saw their faces. I didn't even have to be in earshot yet to know that Caroline was definitely giving them a stern talking-to for whatever reason, but I was sure I was about to find out and become the centre of her annoyance.

"Hey girls! Sorry I'm late. I got caught up doing stuff and didn't realize the last period had already ended." I called as I walked towards them.

I wasn't exactly going to tell them what I was really doing. What I was actually doing, which I got so caught up in, was trying to reach the next level of candy crush on my phone while sitting at the back of class. However, they don't need to know that! Last time, Caroline caught me playing Candy Crush, she taunted me for about three weeks, calling me 'old' and 'boring.' Jeez, sorry for enjoying an app!

"What the hell, Rev!" Caroline wailed. "Cheer practice started over fifteen minutes ago! I've already talked everyone through their positions, and here you come strolling in late!" She ranted as I tried to stifle my giggle and hold back an eye roll. "Caroline, relax! I'm sorry. I'll try not to be late next time. I promise," I answered as I made my way over to the rest of the girls and quickly parked my ass down right next to Bonnie and Clara, both of whom gave me a small smile in return.

"No, Revelynn! This is the third time this week!" The blonde shouted, staring me down and pacing back and forth across the pitch, running her hands through her wavy blonde hair. "You clearly aren't putting as much effort in as the rest of us," she continued. "She's been really strict today. We're all not too sure why," Bonnie whispered in my ear, but she quickly turned her attention back to Caroline as she continued her angry ranting. "You're not even prepared enough to perform next week's big game," she snapped

After about another ten minutes of Caroline ranting about different things that needed to be perfected and fixed, and then another five of her critiquing the girls on their hair and how they should wear it to the big game, I got sick of listening. By the looks on the other girls' faces, I could tell they did too. I threw my Pom poms aside and pulled out my phone to check the time. It was 1:07 pm. Great, another hour and fifty-three minutes before the end of school, I thought and scowled before making my way over to Elena who happened to be one of the lucky few that wasn't getting lectured by Caroline.
