Martin sighed as he laid in his bed at Redwall Abbey. He had lived there for many years, ever since saying goodbye to his friends.
It had been many years since he had seen them. With the help of the monks,he founded the order and now lived in peace. He had given up fightening and his armor and sword were packed away for the next mouse to use it.Martin knew that it would be many seasons before Mathias would be born.Martin hoped that Mathias would be the best warrior he could be.
Martin looked out his window to see the roses in the moonlight. He remembered the travelers from Noonvale had come to Redwall Abbey a few seasons ago. They had come for the feast that Abbet Mortimer held every season. He had been surprised when he saw them but also happy and sad at the same time.It made him happy to see the because they brought back happy memories of his friends and their adventures. But seeing them also made him sad because they brought back memories of Rose.Martin had missed her every day since she died in the final battle of Marshank. He could still hear her voice and see her face in his memories. He often snuck out to see the late rose that the travelers from Noonvale had planted here at Redwall. It had just bloomed beautiful roses today. He would sit infront of them at night because that was when it was quiet and no one was looking for him.It was peaceful at night and he could almost hear her voice.
There were days when Martin found himself drifting into his memories of herand the past. They made him smile despite the pain he felt.Martin knew that his time here was almost over.He was old and had lived a long and good life.He wasn't afraid of dying and hoped he would see his friends. He smiled as he shut his eyes, ready to sleep.
"Martin."
He opened his eyes and looked around. He was certain he heard someone call his name. But no one was in his room.
"Martin."
"Whose there?"he asked.
"I'm sorry Martin.I didn't mean to scare you."said the voice. It was coming from the hallway. He looked up to see Rose walking into his room. His breath froze in his throat as she walked to his side. She was even more beautiful then he remembered.
"Rose? My Rose?"he asked, finally able to speak.Rose laughed as she took his hand in hers.
"Hello my love.It has been a long time."she said,smiling
"Too long.I have missed you,my love."he said,smiling.
"I have missed you too,Martin."she said.
"How are you here Rose?I have heard your voice so many times."said Martin, gently squeezing her hand, afraid that she would disappear."I have always been here Martin. You were hearing my voice from your memories. As long as I was in your heart,I was always with you.Every day and every night,my love.I never left you.You can see me now because it is time Martin."said Rose.Martin knew what she meant and he was ready.
"I'm ready,Rose."he said.
"Come."she said, gently pulling his hand.Martin stood up from his bed with an ease he hadn't felt in years.Martin somehow knew that he was the age he had been when they met.He looked at Rose and pulled her close, hugging her tight.Rose hugged him, smiling. He pulled away and looked at her for a minute before kissing her. They pulled away before leaving his room and walking into the next life, holding hands and smiling.Hi,I know this is late and incase anyone hasn't figuired it out yet. This is going to be a one shot. There will be no more chapters. Thanks for reading this!Thank you for reading this!!!
