"Bye," I shout across the schoolyard. My best friend Lin gets into the Ford 2308 with an Ecoboost engine. The plate number is 56H FG 760HD. "See you tomorrow," she calls back. She lives at 5a Woodbridge Street, I live at 13b. Her room is two flights of stairs up on the right. Her alarm goes off at 6:20 AM and her parents' alarm goes off at 7:00 AM; her parents wake up her brother and sister. They have six cameras: front yard, back yard, living room/kitchen. I placed the other two on the windowsill and in Lin's bedroom. The code to disable the fire alarm is 26719, the same date their rabbit went missing. Well, I cooked it, and then put it in the Pokébowl and gave it to Lin for Christmas. What should I have done differently? I also remember all the PIN codes, telephone numbers, birthdays, upcoming outings, other passwords, acquaintances, bedtimes, and so on. I COULD break in. I'm not going to do that of course; why would I break into the same house twice? I can break into all my friends' houses, by the way, I know exactly where everything is. Sometimes I walk down the halls and think I hear my name, but usually, I don't; the words are so similar. And I don't have to worry about it. I know the name, address, phone number, and the rest of everyone who has ever mentioned my name.
Maybe it would be nice to introduce myself. I'm Ellen Heart, I'm in Apollo High 11th grade. My friends are Lin, Sarah, Olivia, Rose, Bella, Sophie, Lisa, Emma, and Ashley. We are the popular girls that everyone wishes they could be. I have a huge crush on this boy named James, who plays on the best basketball team in school. He uses Axe deodorant Epic Fresh, so I also bought Axe deodorant Epic Fresh to smell the same as him. Then there's this nerd who asked Ashley to the prom at the beginning of the year without a big show. Cale had gone down on one knee for Sophie, with a real gold ring from her favorite jeweler. Nerd went to Ashley in the cafeteria and only managed to say "Prom? you? me?" three times. I mean, is it that hard? That poser is allowed to interfere with other people with his weird behavior. I heard that for seven years his mother fed him like a bird. Just too raunchy! Anyway, Lin, Lisa, and I are less gossipy than the other girls. We mainly gossip about everyone, which is useful to find out more about people...
OK, do you have an image of me? Great, now we can get to the real work. My name is Ellen Heart, a bloodthirsty psychopath. My favorite stalkies are Lin, Sarah, Olivia, Rose, Bella, Sophie, Lisa, Emma, and Ashley. We're the annoying popular girls who think their farts don't stink, you know those types. From day one I observed everyone but developed a suspicious obsession with this guy named James Matheo White. He lives in a single house on the Roosterpark, his room behind the middle window. Every Friday between 3 and 4 PM he goes into town for a pack of iced tea and his father's cigarettes. I still have a few printed-out photos of him from camp and at the pool inside my mattress, along with photos of horse organs that help me sleep. I may know more about James than Lin, but you'll find out later in this story. And then that nerd, his name is Noah-Levi Johnson, skipped two classes in years 2 and 3. To train his social skills, he texts with an AI chatbot every break. I'm not going to blame him; he is just different, like me. And that thing that his mother fed him for seven years like a bird? True, but only for two years.
In my old town, I didn't have any friends, and I didn't care. I brought knives and fake guns to school and would get in a lot of trouble for that. I also shared some 'dark thoughts' like: how should eyeballs taste? I got sent to a therapist who did really weird tests on me. Something that looked like an electric chair and stuff. I never healed; I pretended that I healed so we could go home. Then I moved to a new city. I needed to intimidate other girls, so I looked through the windows and found a girl my age. I installed cameras in her house and learned how to be a normal person. What I didn't know yet was that this same girl was going to be my best friend. Lin helped me a lot getting new friends and getting a normal life in the eyes of strangers. But something just feels off; I still stalk people and kill small animals, but I'm sometimes just tired of keeping everything so secret. Let's just hope I get over it.
