"As released by the coaches prior to tonight's game, Liliane Auclair has been scratched. She's taken an emergency break and was reported to hopefully be back for the game against the Wild."

Dawson shuts off his TV. Liliane's been scratched, no reason to watch that game. The team would lose without her guarding net, Dawson knows that. He knows how she plays and how she contributes to the team, and without her, they just can't do it.

...

Liliane runs through the streets, feeling a new need to get where she needs to go. If anyone saw her now, they'd know this isn't an emergency break.

When she finally reaches the building she's looking for she takes a second to calm herself before walking in and walking in the direction of the elevator. She presses the button for the fifth floor and her heart starts pounding faster. She's doing this for her, for them.

She sprints down the hallway, almost passing the door she's currently standing in front of. Her arm is raised, ready to knock on the door, but she can't. What if there's something on the other side that she doesn't want to see? But, she needs to. She needs to know that all this is for something, she knocks.

"Liliane?" She jumps into the person's arms, feeling the tight embrace for the first time since she begged him not to go at the airport.

"I promise nothing is going on, it's only you. It's been you since we've met, Dawson. I want to marry you, win the cup with you, start a family, retire, do everything together, and I need you to know that." Liliane's out of breath by the time she finishes talking and she doesn't have much time to recover as Dawson kisses her.

"I'm sorry, Liliane. It was only a rumor and I do trust you. There was something I was saving until the day we played each other again, but I can't wait any longer." Dawson pulls her into his apartment and closes the door behind her. He runs into a different room, coming back with two boxes. He sets the larger one to the side and he takes a doe breath.

He gets down on one knee and Liliane's eyes are wider than ever before.

"Yes."

"I didn't even ask yet." Dawson laughs. Liliane smiles, waiting for him to continue.

"Ever since we met there's been something there that there hasn't been with anyone else. You made me feel like I wasn't doing anything wrong in life. I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Et peu importe la distance qui nous sépare, tu seras toujours celui que j'aime le plus au monde. Je t'aime. Will you marry me?"

"Oui, Je t'aime aussi." Liliane hugs Dawson tightly after he stands from the ground, the ring in his hand. He pulls away for a second before sliding it onto Liliane's hand. She smiles and kisses him, but then her eyes trail to the second box. Dawson followers her eyes and hums.

"This is a little something I put together a few days ago, actually." He opens the box and hands Liliane the devils jersey. There's nothing special about it until she flips it over and spots the name at the top.

Mrs. Mercer.

...

"Here we are as we prepare for puckdrop against the Wild. AuClair is back in the lineup- oh, sorry. Mercer is back in the line ups after being scratched for the last two of them."

Dawson smiles through the glass at the new jersey on y/n. Liliane Mercer. That's definitely something he could get used to. Liliane spots him from her spot on the ice during warmups. She sends him a wave and Jamie pokes her with his stick.

"You can be an old couple later have a game to win, Mercer!" Jamie laughs, Trevor from behind him laughs as well.

"Hopefully your honeymoon stage works wonders for us in this game! We need this win!" Trevor cackles at his words, which he thinks is the most hilarious thing in the world, but it's not, and who are Jamie and Liliane to tell him that. Liliane looks over to Dawson one last time and her heart swells. He mouths to her, I love you, and the buzzer sounds through the arena, signaling the warmups end,

And just like that, no matter the distance between them, their love will always rule.

No matter the distance. (Peu Importe la Distance)
