The warm afternoon sun filtered through the lace curtains, casting delicate patterns on the wooden floor. A massive crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling, it's prisms scattering light across the room. The walls were lined with shelves holding leather bound books, their spines worn with age.
A little boy, no older than six, burst through the door, his chubby bread cheeks flushed with excitement. He skidded across the ornate rug, nearly knocking over a small table.
"Grandma! Grandma!" he called, his small feet pattering across the room.
Grandma Kim, seated in her rocking chair, looked up from her knitting and chuckled. She opened her arms wide, and the boy ran straight into them, burying his face in her soft, floral apron.
"There's my little Tete," she said, her eyes twinkling with joy as she lifted him onto her lap.
"What has you so excited today, my baby bear?"
Tete looked up at her with wide, earnest eyes. "Grandma, promise me you'll never leave Tete."
Grandma Kim's heart ached a little at the innocence in his tone. She stroked his fluffy hair gently. "Why would you think I'd leave you, dear?"
Tete's lower lip trembled. "B-Because if you leave, there will be no one for Tete. Mommy and Daddy are always so busy. They don't have time for Tete."
Grandma Kim hugged him tightly, her heart breaking at his words. "Oh, Tete, don't say that. Your parents love you very much. They're just busy with work."
"But they don't play with Tete or read Tete stories like you do," he said, his voice barely a whisper.
Grandma Kim kissed his forehead, her eyes moistening. "One day, Tete, you'll find your own prince charming. Someone who will love you and take care of you. When the day comes, you won't need your old granny anymore."
Tete frowned, shaking his head vehemently. "No, Tete will always need you, Grandma. You're Tete's best friend."
The old lady laughed softly, wiping a tear from her cheek. "And you'll always be my best friend too, my baby bear. But just remember, even if I'm not here, I'll always be with you in your heart. You'll never be alone, Tete. It's j-just that the world is really cruel. But never let anyone lower your worth. You're a gem and anyone who has you should consider themselves lucky."
Tete nodded, his little head not understanding much. He simply snuggled closer, sighing contentedly, "I hope Tete's prince charming will be as nice as you, Grandma."
Taehyung broke out of his reverie, finding himself sitting on the floor of a dimly lit room. The air was thick with silence. He held an old photograph of himself and his grandma, the edges worn and faded. Tears slipped down his cheeks, each one a testament to the storm of emotions surging inside him.
