It was a gloomy Tuesday afternoon. The phone in William's study rang shrilly. The man in purple picked it up

''Hello?'' William said to the voice on the other line of the phone.

A warm yet professional voice answered him. 'Hello Mr Afton. We're just calling to deliver news on your son, Evan.'' The
voice spoke gently into the phone. 'He...passed away. The doctors suspected that it was about 3am. His injuries were fatal and  chances of survival were slim. I'm sorry.''

William was silent for a moment. He drew a deep breath before answering. 'Thank you.'' He hung up, his face pale as moonlight. He didn't cry, but he felt like his heart shattered into a thousand pieces.

How was Lizzie going to react? Her brother, gone..'

A tidal wave emotion washed over William at the same time. Guilt, anger, and a stabbing sense of loss. His youngest son. He wanted to blame Michael for it but...deep down he knew that it was just as much his fault as it was the boy's.

Just like that it was gone. The perfect, happy family he'd worked so hard to create, had been shattered.

Later in the evening, William called a family meeting. His wife, his daughter, and the boy who killed his son sat down in the living room in front of him. His kids could sense that he ad bad news.

'The hospital called me earlier. Evan is gone. His injuries were...too serious.''  His voice cracked a little at delivering the news.

The family's reactions were different. Elizabeth looked at her father like she had just been punched in the stomach and seen a ghost at the same time. Tears streamed down her face. Michael couldn't bear to look at William. The weight of guilt had been intense, and now he felt like someone had torn his heart right of his chest. His wife's reaction was...unexpected. She gave William a look of mixed hatred and grief, almost like- like she blamed him for the death of her son.

The family sat together in painful silence, sharing their emotions without words. Each member had responded to the news differently, yet they all felt one common emotion: grief.

They didn't know it yet, but the death of the youngest Afton would spiral their lives to pure insanity...
