"Anna, can you explain what everyone is feeling?" Nash looks from me to Jameson and Grayson.
"Isn't that like a major invasion of privacy," I was trying my best to not worsen their relationship. It was already falling apart. I think it was better when they were ignoring each other.
"It is an invasion of privacy, that still doesn't stop you from doing it." Grayson stared me down.
I scoffed, "I physically cannot stop my brain from doing it, and Grayson you were the one who wanted me to do it to Avery."
"Okay, you two don't start. Annabelle, clearly both of them need to communicate better, but you do also." Nash was trying so hard to figure out how to put us back together. He doesn't understand that I am beyond fixing.
Grayson's eyes didn't leave me for a second. Those silver grey eyes. There was a slight wrinkle at the edge of his eye. He was thinking. He was trying to figure out what I was thinking.
"Is Avery lying Annabelle?" Jameson asks pulling my attention back to the conversation.
"No." I reply bluntly with not further explanation.
"I think we have our answer about me needing to be protected then." And with that, Jameson stood up and walked away. He was angry, curious and slightly disturbed.
"That's my cue to ditch too, sorry if this wasn't very productive for the two of you," I walked out the door following behind Jameson.
I didn't try to catch up with him. After today I think he just needed some time to think. I did too.
I went to my room, put on extremely devastating music and contemplated my life for probably a few hours. Until I eventually fell asleep.
"Rosie you need to be more careful," I call out to her.
"It's fine Annie," she say smiling, "I am extremely careful in any situation." But she wasn't. She was always getting herself into more trouble.
"You need to learn how to play without getting into trouble," I smiled back at her. I couldn't help it it was so infectious.
"You need to learn how to play without rules!" Her smile widened. she was truly happy. Rosie was always happy even in the worse times of our life.
We were playing in our shared room. The new apartment that we had to move into is smaller and has barely any space for us. But it's fine as long as we are together.
I jump up a bit as I hear the front door slam shut. I pull Rosie up to stand and walk towards the door. Our dad is home.
I can tell as soon as I see him he had a bad day at work. His face is blank but his eyes are furious. They were looking straight through the apartment but they were frantic and panicked. He sees us and smiles a wide smile. his face calms and his eyes stare into mine. We have the same eyes. My heart starts to race. Tonight he wants another girl. He needs another girl.
"Oh Annie come over to me," I walk towards him my hands shaking. He looks at me and smiles wider. "I'll need your help later, for our job."
"Okay Dad, I'll get it done." He smiles. He is too exited. Why are you this exited?
"Good girl, but first Rosie come over too," Our dads face twists into something that for the first time I cannot read.
"Lets play a game of hide and seek."
The first lie of the night.
I wake up with a jolt. A scream is dry in my throat but I don't let it escape.
God I really could not catch a break.
I look at my phone.
1 text from Eva (my friend)
3 texts from Derrick (my stepdad)
7 texts from Ethan (my half brother)
I'll answer them later. Or maybe ignore them until I have to answer. Or I won't answer.
I saw Grayson swimming in the pool. Perfect time for a heart to heart about how emotions matter and even soulless, blonde, grey eyed people have feelings.
"Heyyy blondie." Grayson stops swimming in the middle of his lap.
"Don't call me blondie," he scowled.
"Sorry blondie," I say with a smirk, "did you know 2 .85% of your financial success is due to your personality and ability to communicate,"
Grayson swam over to the edge and pulled himself up, "It's certainly more,"
"I don't know that's what the website said," I continue. "It also said some people have an amazing ability to take small problems and transform them into much bigger ones."
"If that was indicated at me you can leave now." He was being incredibly cold tonight.
"It was actually about few different people," I look at him making direct eye contact, "I'd like to say I am pretty good at it personally."
"Your not a psycho killer." I was surprised. He was thinking about earlier. That is why he is swimming now. Well, not the only reason. It's also because he was just disinherited.
"Maybe I am. No one could ever be too sure." I don't know why I make jokes like this. It hurts to make them, yet I still do.
He takes one step forward, "Your nothing like your mum."
"I know, I've been told I'm more like my dad," The second I said it I regretted it. I didn't want to be like him, no matter how much I was. Grayson was taken aback by this statement too.
"That's the first time you have ever even mentioned another parent," I needed him to stop talking. There was no way to stop it.
"Who do you think I lived with for the first 8 years of my life?"
Gray stopped to think for a second, before taking a step closer to me, "I'm not sure."
"I lived with my dad."
"You did?" he inched closer to me and I thought everything around me would go up in flames.
"Yes I did." I felt frozen. I couldn't move a single inch.
"I never knew." He was right in front of me now, so close we could be touching.
"I don't really like to talk about it Gray,"
"What did he do to you Anna." He said it so softly it was almost a whisper.
"Nothing," I lied, "He just died."
"Are you lying Anna?" He was too close. It was all too real. He is too close.
"Emotions matter Grayson, don't hide them from your brothers," I turned around and walked away. If I couldn't tell Jameson what happened to me, why the hell would I tell Gray?
I Wouldn't. Ever.
A/n
I actually like the end of this chapter a lot. I think I might have a whole chapter flashback soon but I like this short one.
Also if anyone has any song recommendations for the playlist please comment them I will probably add it.
Thanks for reading.
Hope you liked it.
