"Officer Ghost!" A voice called out after Blake after she walked out the coffee shop with a hot cup of coffee in her hands. She turned around seeing Joseph Brown, "Nice to see you again, I just wanted to thank you for the other day. You won't catch me speedin' anymore." He said with a smile, a smile she did not return.
"How can I help you Mr. Brown?" She asked.
'I was just wonderin' are you free Saturday night?" He asked.
"I'm a cop, I'm never free." She responded and he chuckled nodding his head.
"You're right, I'm sorry I'm new to this 'asking women out' stuff. My brother always got the girl and I guess I'm just tryin to be a little more like him with the confidence."
"Don't compare yourself to your brother, I'm pretty sure you two are nothing a like." She replied with a sarcastic chuckle. "You seem more like the bad boy, was Milo good?"
"I reckon so, my brother had a heart of gold." Joseph replied as if it hurt him to say it.
"You know I went through the evidence on Milo's case, and you found him, right?" Blake asked.
"Yeah, it was horrific, found'em shot dead in his service car." He spoke sadly, taking his cowboy hat off his head.
"Was he dating anybody?" Blake asked, leaning back on the hood of her service car sipping her coffee. She studied Joseph, and while he was good under pressure Blake could feel how nervous he was.
"Not that I know of my brother was all about his work ma'am."
"It's just weird, no suspects, leads, hell looking at all the evidence there wasn't much of an investigation, and you as his only living relative I know you must be having a hard time with that. I know how hard something like that can be."
"I'm down at the station all the time lookin' for answers ma'am, it seems I may be lucky if you askin' questions. You gonna investigate for me?"
"Oh no, I'm too new. Cap didn't assign that case to me. I don't want to step on any toes, I'm not a detective and I honestly think I'm just getting weirded out living in a dead guy's house. Thought I could handle it, but the place is a little creepy. I just wanted to know what I was getting myself into with this house, I don't really know what happened. Nobody talks about it."
"I know how scary that can be, look I understand if you wanna find another place to live. I'll buy the house back." He said as he placed his hat back on his head.
"I'll let you know; I may just take you up on that offer." She replied with a small smile, and that made him smile. "Ask me out again if you see me again Mr. Brown."
"I reckon I will, and you will be seein me Ms. Ghost." He said watching her get in her service car and start it right up. He waved at her, and she waved back as she pulled out of her parking spot.
Blake pulled into the diner parking lot; she was drawn to this diner for some reason. She spent most of her day stationed here and flagging those who sped down this road. She got out of the car with the picture of Ca'Mya Lowe. Blake ran across her picture last night in the case file as one of the 13 missing girls. She walked across the street into the field, she could see Milo, and she just knew she'd seen Ca'Mya in the field a week ago when she pulled Joseph Brown over.
"Ca'Mya?" Blake called out as she got to the exact spot, she saw Ca'Mya. She felt crazy doing this, it took her 3 days to understand she was really talking to the ghost of Milo Brown. So maybe, just maybe she could see others too. She also knew that meant if she could see Ca'Mya she just may be dead. "Hey sweetie, I know it's weird that a stranger knows your na-'
