"I KNOW HE'S HIDING SOMETHING!" I shouted indignantly. "Kingsley, allow me to act more seriously. We also have to search his friends' belongings, check their wands and..."
"Miss Granger..." the minister changed to an official tone. "We don't have the right to do that! You only check Mr. Malfoy's belongings until the probation is over. After that, if he doesn't commit a serious offence, he will be permanently acquitted of all charges, don't forget that!"I stared nervously at Kingsley.
"But isn't it a serious transgression that he hides something on purpose and misleading me?!" I snapped.
I was very angry. Because of Malfoy, I not being able to reveal his secrets yet and Kingsley for hindering my investigation...
"Hermione!" the minister put his hand on my shoulder to calm me down. "This is just an assumption. Your charms will reveal if he's carrying any forbidden potions or something illegal and dangerous... If he's hiding something from you, it may be something as personal as, let's say, a diary or a signed poster from the famous witch band, Spellbound... and that's not forbidden at all..."
"What?!" I snorted contemptuously.
I thought I heard him wrong. My blood pressure was so high...
How the hell did Kingsley come up with an idea of a damn diary or a poster?!What does he think, is Draco Malfoy just a fucking teen fan or what?!
I could have exploded in anger...
"You make me check on him and when I find something suspicious you say "Oh, he must be hiding his diary..."
What the actual fuck?!"
I could have screamed from the rage caused by helplessness.
First of all, Malfoy looks just like someone who keeps a fucking diary?!
Secondly, can't a diary be suspicious or dangerous anyway?!
Has everyone here already forgotten what Tom Denem's memoir did to Ginny in the Chamber of Secrets?!"So that's the final command? Do I have to pretend every Saturday until the end of February that I know he's hiding something from me, but I don't care?!" I looked questioningly at Kingsley.
"Exactly." the minister closed the debate. Kingsley finally gave me a faint smile. "You have done a great job so far, Hermione and please keep it up this way." he got up from his chair and gently signalled that it was time for me to go. "Please continue to check Mr. Malfoy within the framework of the regulations. You can search only for forbidden potion ingredients, dangerous tools and forbidden charms!"
"I understand, Minister!" I stood up, then, seething in myself, I walked to the fireplace and after sprinkling the floo powder in it, I called the fireplace of Professor McGonagall's office, and then I entered the green flames without saying a damn hello.*
The following weeks passed uneventfully, but my favourite concoction was already simmering in my carefully hidden cauldron, for which I took most of the ingredients from Professor Slughorn's warehouse.
Four long weeks later, I was ready to put my plan into action.
At the next Potion class, I sat down at the table directly behind the Slytherins, to which my friends reacted with raised eyebrows, but in the end, they followed me and settled down next to me.
The work was already in full swing, everyone was busy with their Wit-Sharpening Potion and they were carefully grinding the scarab beetles, cutting the ginger root and pouring the armadillo bile into their cauldrons.
"Well done, Miss Greengrass, very good!" Professor Slughorn complimented Daphne as he walked by their table. "This will help you learn better and prepare for your N.E.W.T.s exams!" enthused the professor and approached the potion of two Ravenclaw girls to see how they were doing.
