ON A RINGING TELEPHONE.
A hand reaches for it, bringing the receiver up to the face of
Chelsea, a young girl, no more than sixteen. A friendly face
with innocent eyes.
Chelsea: Hello.
Girl's Voice: (from phone) Hello.
Silence.
Chelsea: Yes.
Girl: Who is this?
Chelsea: Who are you trying to reach?
Girl: What number is this?
Chelsea: What number are you trying to reach?
Girl: I don't know.
Chelsea: I think you have the wrong number.
Girl: Do I?
Chelsea: It happens. Take it easy.
She hangs up the phone. To reveal
Chelsea in a living room, alone. She moves from the living room to
the kitchen. It's a nice house. Affluent.
The phone RINGS again.
INT. KITCHEN
Chelsea grabs the portable.
Chelsea: Hello.
Girl: I'm sorry. I guess I dialed the wrong number.
Chelsea: So why did you dial it again?
Girl: To apologize.
Chelsea: You're forgiven. Bye now.
Girl: Wait, wait, don't hang up.
Chelsea stands in front of a sliding glass door. It's pitch black outside.
Chelsea: What?
Girl: I want to talk to you for a second.
Chelsea: They've got 900 numbers for that. Seeya.
Chelsea hangs up. A grin on her face.
EXT. CASEY'S HOUSE - NIGHT - ESTABLISHING
A big country home with a huge sprawling lawn full of big oak
trees. It sits alone with no neighbors in sight.
The phone RINGS again.
INT. KITCHEN
Popcorn sizzles in a pot on the stove. Casey covers it with a lid, reaching for the portable phone.
Chelsea: Hello.
Girl: Why don't you want to talk to me?
Chelsea: Who is this?
Girl: You tell me your name, I'll tell you mine.
Chelsea: (shaking the popcorn) I don't think so.
Girl: What's that noise?
Chelsea smiles, playing along, innocently.
Chelsea: Popcorn.
Girl: You're making popcorn?
Chelsea: Uh-huh.
Girl: I only eat popcorn at the movies.
Chelsea: I'm getting ready to watch a video.
Girl: Really? What?
Chelsea: Just some Comedy movie.
Girl: Do you like Comedy movies?
Chelsea: Uh-huh.
Girl: What's your favorite Comedy movie?
