Siddharth and Avneet, now admitted and led by the nurse, walked down the sterile, brightly lit corridors of the hospital towards their designated semi-deluxe room. Each step was a painful reminder for Avneet of the imminent arrival of their child, and Siddharth could feel her frustration mounting. As they approached the room, Siddharth gently squeezed Avneet's hand, trying to offer her some comfort and reassurance.
Upon reaching the room, the nurse pushed open the door. Suddenly, a voice came from inside, filled with surprise and delight, "Oh my God, you!"
Siddharth and Avneet froze in their tracks, their eyes wide with shock. The voice was unmistakably familiar. They stepped inside, their eyes scanning the room until they fell upon the source of the voice. Lying in one of the two beds, looking just as surprised to see them, was Ashi Singh. Ashi was a friend of Siddharth's and had a playful habit of flirting with him, especially when Avneet was around. Her presence here, in labor as well, was a shock to both of them.
Ashi's eyes widened with surprise and delight. "Oh my God, you!" she exclaimed, a playful smile spreading across her face. "What are you doing here?"
Siddharth inwardly groaned, his mind racing. *Kill me now,* he thought. He knew this situation would only escalate Avneet's irritation. Avneet, already on edge, shot him a glare that could pierce steel.
"We are going back, Siddharth," Avneet whispered firmly, turning to leave. "Come on, let's find another room. There must be other rooms in this hospital."
Siddharth turned to the nurse, desperation in his eyes. The nurse interjected gently, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but this is the only semi-deluxe room available at the moment. All other rooms are occupied."
Ashi, clearly enjoying the situation, added with a teasing tone, "Looks like we'll be roommates! There's no other choice but to share." She glanced at Siddharth with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, adding, "I mean, share the room, of course."
Siddharth could feel the tension rising. He knew he had to handle this delicately to avoid a full-blown argument. He took a deep breath and turned to Avneet, his eyes pleading for her understanding. "Avneet, I know this isn't ideal, but we need to think about what's best for our baby. It's important for you to be comfortable, and right now, this is the only room available. We just need to make do for a little while. Please, for me?"
Avneet's eyes narrowed, her frustration palpable. But she could see the earnestness in Siddharth's expression and the genuine concern in his voice. She sighed heavily, clearly not happy with the situation but understanding the necessity. "Okay," she said reluctantly. "But just for a little while."
