Learning About The Past

I became the leader of the Lion Guard. Bunga was the bravest, Beshte the strongest, Fuli the quickest and Ono the keenest of sight. We made a great team and protected the Pride Lands, but... Kiara, Tiifu and Zuri still bullied me.

Fuli said that they're just jealous and I couldn't be bothered what they think about me. I'm a great friend, they just don't see it. I think she's right, but... If Kiara and the others try something, I'll be prepared.

I was with the Lion Guard on patrol, when Zazu flew over to me.

"Kion! Kion!" Zazu landed in front of me. "Rafiki needs to talk to you."

"I'll be right there

"I'll be right there." I told the bird. "Fuli, can you take the lead while I'll be gone?"

"Sure." Fuli smiled.

I ran into the Lair. Rafiki was just painting a new picture.

"Zazu told me you needed to talk to me." I told the mandrill.

"Oh, yes, yes." Rafiki kept painting. "I do." He looked at me, took his staff and gestured me to follow him.

I followed him and we stopped in front of a big rock, paintings all over it

I followed him and we stopped in front of a big rock, paintings all over it.

"This is Jayei." Rafiki pointed his staff at a strongly built lioness, with brown fur, dark brown tuft of fur on her head and blue eyes. "She lived in the Bach Lands. I think your dad told you about the Back Lands?"

"Yes, he did. But-"

"Wait, Kion. Relax. I'll explain everything." Rafiki smiled. "You know, in the Back Lands was a Lion Guard, too. But an evil lion killed the members of the Lion Guard."

"Scar. But... I thought he killed only his own Lion Guard."

"No. He killed all the Lion Guards that existed. And do you know why?"

"Why?"

"Because he wanted to rule over the Back Lands as well as the Pride Lands. And the Lion Guards were stopping him to do so."

"And why are you showing me just Jayei? Why not the other lions and lionesses?"

"And why are you showing me just Jayei? Why not the other lions and lionesses?"

"Because Jayei was the only lioness that fought. She didn't ran away, or let the hyenas kill her. She stood up to them and fought. But... the hyenas killed her, it was too much for her."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Because Jayei fought to the end. She didn't give up and fought for what's right. Just like you."

"Rafiki!" Father walked over to us. "My son will always fight for what's right."

"I will

"I will." I looked into my father's eyes, a smile, but... I could see he was worried about something...

"Let me tell you something." Father looked away and walked over to a painting of an old lion with brown fur, a black main and brown eyes, standing on Pride Rock.

"Who's that?" I walked over to the painting.

"That's Siku. Your great-grandfather." Rafiki explained. "A great king."

"Yes. Indeed." Father nodded. "He's Mufasa's father."

"So... He was Scar's father, too?" I asked.

Rafiki looked at my father, it looked like he was gesturing my father to say something. But my father shook his head, looking away.

"And this is who?" I asked, changing the subject.

There was a young lion cub with brown fur and eyes.

"That's Mchana. Siku's father." Rafiki explained.

The mandrill touched the painting of Jayei. The lioness started fighting hyenas, but they were too much for her and she disappeared.

When he touched Siku's painting, the lion roared and animals bowed.

At Mchana, the cub nuzzled an adult lion, probably his father, and animals bowed.

"Siku and Mchana did nothing but got respect from the animals. Jayei didn't fought but got nothing." I said. "It's... not fair."

"Yes

"Yes. It isn't." Rafiki nodded. "And that's why I'm telling you this."

"Rafiki? Is that you?" Father asked the mandrill, while looking at a painting of a mandrill that looked just like Rafiki.

"Oh. No, that's Njema." Rafiki replied. "My father."

The mandrill touched the painting with his staff. Njema was drawing another painting of... A war.

"He could see the future. Just bits. Blurry." Rafiki explained.

"Well, I think I should tell you something about Nani. Siku's mate." Father stood in front of the painting, so I couldn't see what Njema was painting.

"Um... Okay." I smiled.

"This is her. She was very brave and kind towards others. As I heard." Father smiled at a painting of the adult lioness. She had creamy fur and blue eyes.

Rafiki touched the painting with his staff. The lioness looked at the rising sun, and nuzzled her mate.

Then I heard an annoying voice that I hated so much.

"Dad! Kion wasn't patrolling! Can you believe it? He really isn't ta-"
