IT WAS THE BASKETBALL SEMI-FINALS. Despite the day passing by in a blur and Lexa avoiding anyone and everyone she could, she couldn't quite avoid running into Spider by his locker.
He slammed it shut when he turned to see the girl, "Where've you been stranger?"
Lexa looked up, startled, "Sorry I've been dodging you, I'm just out of it. I guess."
"What's wrong?" Spider asked, concern furrowing his brow as she scoffed, "What isn't at this point?"
"Humour me..." Spider shifted uncomfortably, trying to read her expression, "Woodsy didn't end up suspending you?"
"Nah," Lexa said with a bitter laugh, "She was giving me a lecture on uh... priorities really."
"How come?" Spider probed as her eyes flashed with irritation, "Are you listening or interrogating me?"
"What's with the defensiveness?" Spider shot back, feeling his own frustration rise as she retorted, "Hello! Literally just told you I'm losing the plot."
"In few words," He mumbled, letting out a sigh, "So tell me why you're losing it."
"I just did," Lexa said, completely satisfied with herself and her thought. Spider echoed after, "Priorities?"
"Yep."
Spider paused, letting the frustration pour out of him, "So did Dusty get the real details or you just told him priorities?"
"Well when's it gonna give? I don't get why you even entertained him."
"Did you eavesdrop on the right conversation?" Lexa rolled her eyes, "I told him to take a hike."
"Pretty sure you just cowered out of it when it got too hard," He shrugged, the girl in utter shock, "What the hell happened to you overnight?"
"Can you just trust me? Seriously, I told him to back off and I also want you to back off!" Lexa's tone faltered to a plead, "I promise you, I just don't need to talk about it... What is so deeply wrong with you that you feel the need to eavesdrop?"
"Well, I'm glad I did," Spider countered, his voice hardening, "How can I trust it if you won't-"
Lexa's jaw clenched, trying her best to ignore his slight, her fists tightening at her sides. "Is there anything that I can say that's going to make you chill out?"
