"WAIT WAIT I CAN'T RUN THAT FAST!" Izuku screamed as he tried to keep up. A burst of laughter erupted from all of us. Mina and Uraraka fell over into the grass as Izuku finally caught up. "Guys please my legs can only do so much." I laughed as I placed my hand on his hunched over body.
"Come here stinky." Uraraka laughed as she pulled Deku into a hug. His face grew into a light shade of red as he buried it into her neck. He helped her and Mina stand up. "So Monique," she began, "are you excited for us to show you around?" I smiled and nodded. Mina cheered and dusted herself off.
"Let's get going." Deku said.
I had just moved here about 8 months ago. I was born in Durango, Mexico but because of some family issues, I had to fly out here and make a living. I was 18 when I first got here but now I'm 19. I was lucky enough to meet Deku and Mina through Uraraka. I met her at a cafe because I bumped into her. That was about 2 months ago. I was grateful to have known at least a few people. I was tired of being lonely.
"Monique! Tell me more about you!" Mina smiled at me. Her yellow irises looked so pretty when the sun hit them. She wore a green sundress with blue sandals. Her pink hair sat perfectly around her face. "How did you afford such a huge apartment?" I laughed.
"My parents sent me out here. There was just a little issue over there so they thought it would be best for me to be independent somewhere I'm not familiar with." I explained. "I just turned 19 not too long ago so one more year until I can drink!" Mina screamed at my last comment.
"YESS PARTY GIRLL YOU SOUND SO FUNNN!" Mina and Uraraka laughed. I looked over at Deku and noticed a very forced smile. "Don't worry about him," she said, "Deku doesn't drink. He's just here for the ride." I looked back at Deku and noticed his face getting red.
"Yeah heh heh, I'm not much of a substance enjoyer." His little face was painted with embarrassment. "Here we are!" Deku changed the subject quickly. "Ladies first." He smiled as he opened the door for us. Uraraka had set up lunch for me to meet more people. She said everyone was really nice and willing to meet me so who am I to deny more friends? The restaurant was nice and it smelled like coffee cake. Deku lead the way to a very full corner booth table.
"HEYY THEY MADE IT!" A girl with black hair stood up. She wore a red dress that hugged the right areas. Uraraka smiled and hugged her. I saw as more people stood up and came towards us. "Hi my name is Momo! You're Monique, right?" The black haired girl reached out her hand. I nodded and shook her hand gently.
"Hello beautiful." A sudden nasally voice rose up. I looked around but I didn't see anyone. I heard someone clear their throat. "Aqui abajo, hermosa." I looked down and see a sentient cluster of grapes. He was tiny and smelled of Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male. "My name is Mineta, but you can call me anytime." He stuck his hand up and I reached down. I tried my best to form a smile but the ghost of embarrassment crept up my spine.
"He's a little horn dog don't pay attention to him. I'm Kirishima." A nice boy smiled at me. He had a white shirt on with blue jeans. His hand was very firm yet soft. I ended up meeting a good amount of people. I met Momo, Mineta, Kirishima, and a cute little green haired girl named Tsuyu. We sat down and began to discuss what we wanted. "What do you want, Monique? Does anything catch your eye?" Kirishima asked nicely. I felt my shoulders heat up.
"I just really want some horchata." I said quietly. Everyone looked at me with a confused expression.
"Ore-chada?" Izuku asked. I laughed at him
"Have yall never heard of horchata?" The use of the word 'yall' seem to confuse them further. The palms of my hands began to sweat a little bit.
"Horchata is a rice milk drink with cinnamon." A sharp voice erupted from behind me. I jumped and turned around. I felt my pupils triple in size. His eyes were a honey brown and he wore a black compression shirt. Khaki cargo pants and beat up white shoes. He wore a silver ring on his left middle finger. His hair was a loud blonde and it stuck up all around his head.
"Kacchan!!" Izuku smiled and waved. His eyes met mine. His gaze seemed to soften until he turned his attention back to Deku.
"Hey." He said in a very blank tone. He came around and sat next to me. I felt the pressure of him sitting down and broke out into goosebumps. His eyes turned to me again and his hand grabbed mine. He squeezed my hand and shook it. "I'm Bakugo." As fast as he grabbed my hand was as fast as he let go.
"How do you know what horchata is?" Tsuyu asked. She wore a white bow in her hair and a white skirt with a pink shirt.
"Because I've had it before. You won't find that here, though. Get a blonde roast espresso with condensed milk and oat milk. Add cinnamon to it." Bakugo didn't lift his eyes from the menu once. "Do you want me to order you that?" He looked back at me. I felt the wind escape my lungs. "Are you deaf or are you mute? I asked you a question." His sudden rudeness snapped me back.
"Order it for me." I raised my voice a little. Everyone at the table seemed pleased with the fact that I pushed back. We continued our conversation amongst our drinks. The way this cafe worked was strange. Instead of getting billed as a table, they'd bring you a ticket and when you're finished you take it up to the front and pay. It was different than back home. Everyone showed me a bit of their quirks. Kirishima's scared me, I had never seen someone have a quirk like that. Tsuyu's was so cute. Momo made me a little gold necklace with hers. They were all very kind. "What's your quirk, Bakugo?" He shifted in his seat.
"Bombs." He said. I stared in confusion. No elaborating or examples, just bombs.
"His hero name is Great Explosion Murder God Dynamite!" Uraraka bursted out laughing. Kirishima and Momo followed. I tried to stifle my laughter.
"SHUT UP DAMMIT YOU LITTLE SHITS ARE MAD YOUR NAME ISN'T AS COOL AS MINE!" Bakugo screamed across the table. Their laughter only grew louder. "You see what you did horchata girl this is your fault." He crossed his arms and laid back.
"Okay okay don't blame Monique she didn't know." Kirishima's laughter settled down. "Did you like your coffee?" I smiled and nodded.
"Let's keep showing you around, yeah? I'll get the bills." Deku smiled. Everyone took their ticket and went towards the front. Bakugo took my ticket from me.
"I'm paying for mine and hers." He said. Bakugo pushed through everyone and completed his task. I was whiplashed. He's so rudely doing nice things for me and I didn't understand.
"He's always like this. Don't take it to heart." Tsuyu reassured me. I let out a sigh and followed everyone out the door.
