✎ the two entered the movie theater, going to see what movies were playing.
"so, Nene, what was that movie you said had just came out?" Tsukasa asked, as they reached the area to get tickets. "it's about a mermaid... it seems pretty cool," Nene explained, twiddling with her hair strands as a distraction.
"ah, I forgot you're kind of a fangirl for mermaids! if you wanna see it, then I don't mind!" Tsukasa agreed. "I-I am not a fangirl!" Nene huffed. "calm down! it's good to know that the Nene Kusanagi herself has a thing for mermaids," Tsukasa laughed, as they eventually got to the desk.
"two tickets for 'Mermaid Admiration,' please!" Tsukasa announced loud enough that the whole movie theater could hear him, holding up two little fingers to represent the two tickets. Nene almost jumped six feet into the air.
"why does he have to take everything so over-the-top..." Nene grumbled under her breath, plugging her ears.
"alright, sir!" the person behind the desk replied happily, even though her eardrums were probably begging to be exterminated as well right now. "also, just so you know, tickets are cheaper for couples," the cashier stated, her expression all cheerful.
"couple...?" Tsukasa uttered out. Nene and Tsukasa gave each other blank glances, before quickly snapping their heads away from each other. "u-uh, yeah... we're not a couple," Tsukasa chuckled nervously, Nene nodding aggressively in agreement.
"y-yeah... he's..." she trailed off. "we're just friends!" Nene said after a few seconds of silence, though, something in her told her to say that this overconfident and loud idiot was absolutely her type...
and then her brain told her to call that stupid blonde annoyingly earnest and pathetically cute instead. how strange... it made her wonder if that's how she really thought of her 'boyfriend.'
"oh, I apologize for my mistake! please, enjoy your movie!" the staff bowed apologetically, before waving and sending the two off to the next spot.
the 'couple' neared the snack area, thinking about what they wanted to get to eat during the movie they were going to see.
"how's an ICEE sound, Nene? I want the Coca-Cola flavored one!" Tsukasa exclaimed, closing his eyes in joy. "Tsukasa you already paid for the tickets, I can get the snacks for us," Nene offered, pulling out her wallet.
"don't worry, I have a ton of money to spend, Nene! you don't have to pay," Tsukasa waved his hand as if to say he was dismissing her idea. "no, it's the least I could do. I'm the one that invited you out anyway, so..." Nene insisted. "I-I mean as a friend, o-of course..." she chuckled awkwardly.
"God... Tsukasa and I have literally been friends for months now, why am I still so awkward around him...?" Nene thought to herself, sighing softly. "b-but I wouldn't be a true star if I didn't pay for a lady!" Tsukasa frowned.
Nene groaned. "Tsukasa, I said I'm paying! go stand over there," Nene ordered the blonde, pointing over to the spot she wanted him to wait at.
Nene reached the food counter, checking her wallet. she only had 10 dollars, just enough for just one medium popcorn and a Coca-Cola ICEE.
"oh, shit... I hope Tsukasa doesn't mind that we have to share a popcorn..." Nene gulped, putting the money down on the table to pay. "it'd be way too rude to ask him to pay for the rest now, after all that insisting I did."
"wait, what if our hands touch when we go to grab the popcorn in unison, just like in those stupid romance movies...!?" Nene blushed at the thought, as she took the popcorn and the ICEE the person behind the counter held out for her.
"Tsukasa... I could only get one popcorn, so.... we're going to have to share," Nene said, handing Tsukasa his ICEE and keeping the medium popcorn in her grasp.
"oh... I guess that's alright! I have no problem with sharing a popcorn with my second top biggest fan!" Tsukasa laughed, taking a very long and exaggerated sip from his drink. "i-if you say so..." Nene mumbled, as they went into the theater.
finding their seats, they settled in, with Tsukasa taking the popcorn and offering it to Nene first. "ladies first," he said with a wink. Nene rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile behind her facade. "thanks, Tsukasa..." she uttered, taking a handful of popcorn, when the movie started.
Tsukasa and Nene were completely silent, well, except for the sound of crunching down on the buttery snack. though, Nene found herself looking over at Tsukasa a few times. it was just how the light of the projector screen enlightened each little perfect thing about him, his golden to light red ombre hair glowing.
his eyes were focused intently on the screen, that glimmer in his eyes he got whenever he was interested in something... that was something so endearing about him, his lips curling into a soft smile every now and then during the show.
Nene's heart fluttered, a sensation she was getting all too familiar with around her so-called troupe leader recently.
not wanting to think too much about that feeling, she just tried to focus on the movie. she slowly reached for another handful, and, as Nene had imagined earlier, their fingers brushed against each other. a jolt of electricity shot through her, making her retract her hand abruptly with a tiny yelp.
so, did Tsukasa. "gah! sorry, Nene!!" Tsukasa whisper-yelled in embarrassment before forcing his eyes back on the movie.
Nene kept her hands on her lap the whole rest of the movie to avoid touching the popcorn. she was as red as a tomato for the entire time there, so much she could barely focus.
Nene stared down at her hand, caressing it with the other. "why does it always have to be Tsukasa!?" Nene mentally screamed, thinking of her crush made her blush even more. Nene buried her face in her hands, contracting the heat of her cheeks to her hands as well. this type of feeling was unbearable, but still felt morally right.
meanwhile, Tsukasa took many more handfuls of the popcorn until the end, not noticing Nene's behavior.
