Chapter 3: Late Night Cooking in the Kitchen
Past
MOST OF THE KIDS AT YOUR SCHOOL TALK BAD BEHIND YOUR BACK. If not, some of them even stomp on your shoes until your socks turn dirty.
Deep inside, you know that they're jealous of you. But what you don't understand is why some kids who wanted to be pro heroes someday are such bullies.
Your brain keeps on telling you that you should tell your parents about it. But you can't. No matter how hard you try, you just can't.
Every time when they return home, they’re already stressed out about their hero work. You don't want to be a burden to them.
You have to be strong. This will be over soon. You kicked the rock in front of you as you walked home.
With each step you took, you kicked the rock harder and harder.
“Y/n!” Touya called out your name when he saw you walking home. It's been about a week since he followed you home. Nothing much has changed except his hair turned a bit whiter. He still gets burns on his skin every now and then.
It pisses you so much that he's doing this because of what his father said to him before. He just won't stop until his father acknowledges him.
You stopped your tracks, and approached him. “Your hair's turning white.” You waved to the boy. “Hi.”
He ran towards you like he has been waiting for you the whole afternoon. Once he's close enough to you, his smile fades. Touya stared at your dirty socks. “Who did this to you?”
The kids at your kindergarten did to you. Since your quirk isn't flashy or anything that can harm them or defend yourself, you couldn't do anything about it.
“Some kids at school.” You brushed it off like it wasn't bothering you. “Doesn't really matter cause I'll be graduating kindergarten soon!” You tried to change the subject.
Touya crossed his arms and frowns. “It matters, Y/n. Next time, if they try to hurt you again, I'd like to fight them. I'll protect you!”
What he said made you chuckle. “I like the sound of that.”
There was a brief silence between you two before Touya asked you if you wanted to train together next time.
“Maybe…we could train together next time? My father doesn't train with me anymore…and you look like a nice person.” He brushes his hand through his hair nervously. “Do you want to be a hero, Y/n?”
You weren't exactly sure if you wanted to be a hero. But seeing your parents being overworked and getting underpaid is giving you second thoughts.
“I guess? My parents are pro heroes, but I'm still not sure. But, we can train together.” You have never seen Touya smile like this before.
The sky was suddenly filled with storm gray clouds. A sudden loud bang erupted making you jump a little.
“Sekoto peak, this Saturday.” Touya reminded you before you ran home.
This continued on for a few years, until the day you turned thirteen. The day that’ll haunt you for the rest of your life.
Touya's death.
That was your biggest regret. Not being able to save him.

Present
Dabi's been following you all night, and it's getting on your nerves already. You were also extremely mad at yourself for being so reckless.
He seems to notice your annoyance when you shoved out your car keys from your pocket.
