a/n: Things get a little dark in this chapter.

Soundwave was absolutely quiet as he breached Starscream's cerebral code, reading his mind forcefully. Megatron watched from afar, leaving him to his devices. He ignored the seeker's cries of agony as he tried to keep him out, finding the memory files he was looking for.

The Last Fall. That disastrous, unprecedented event. The attack on that hidden base cost Soundwave's sixth and youngest child's life. It left him with a hole in his spark that left him vengeful, quiet, and deadly in pursuit of the culprit. He spent every free moment searching through any clue, and finally, he found a trail.

Following it, he found the file that was scrubbed as thoroughly as possible for all of the called missions. He rebuilt the file, for many years, meticulously using every ability he had, until finally, a name was found.

.

"Soundwave?" Megatron was surprised to see the mech in the command room. Usually, he was at communications running surveillance. But right now, the quiet mech seemed to be shaking with an emotion Megatron was familiar with, rage.

"Request: Private Audience. Purpose: Important Information." He stated, using that strange modulated voice of his. Megatron sent the lingering Vehicons and other personnel out, standing to meet Soundwave in the middle of the room.

That's when the mech did something unexpected. For the first time in multiple thousands of years...

"I. Found. It."

He spoke, truly spoke, with a voice so deep it was akin to a rumble of thunder. He gave Megatron a datapad, not giving the older mech time to reel from the fact he'd broken his vow of silence briefly. When he looked at the information presented, that surprise quickly became a volcano of fury.

An attack, wrongly identified as an Autobot base which they knew it wasn't, was set to be seized by a drone squadron. At the command, giving the order, and overruling every protocol he'd set in place, was a name they clearly recognized. The data on the mission was wiped, and every drone involved were but mindless dolls, suspiciously offlining by the next day.

Soundwave removed his visor mask and revealed his scarred face. A murderous darkness surrounded his optics, focused unfalteringly on Megatron. "Where is Starscream."

.

"AAAHHHHHhhhHhhH!" The seeker had never been in this much agony before. It was completely different from being Megatron's punching bag. There was no reprieve from this pain, and it only got worse the further he delved into his memories.

Starscream, with some weird clarity he knew was being allowed, could tell that it was only this excruciating because Soundwave wanted it to be. He wanted him to suffer. He didn't care if the pain killed him.

Because this was personal, and he knew exactly why.

Slowly, purposely, Soundwave set his processor aflame in his search for those memories he'd locked away. That horrid mistake that would live with him forever was being unearthed. It was being pulled from the back of his mind as painfully as possible.

"AAAAAHHHHhhhhhHHHhHHHH!"

Even Megatron, who oversaw this process of extracting the information, winced. He almost looked away. He'd seen Soundwave do this many times on their enemies. Usually, he didn't care to make it painful. The only pain they felt was when they tried to push him out of their heads, that, and regular torture broke their minds and made the process easier.
