I found myself sitting on a train, with Tokito being the only other person in my car.
Out of complete instinct, I tried to look in literally any direction but his.
What a beautiful ceiling this is...
"Wait who are you again?"
I tensed for a moment before I looked in his direction to see him looking back at me with seemingly soulless eyes.
Does he have memory loss or something? There was no way he'd already forgotten that we were assigned to the same mission.
"I'm L/N Y/N...? I thought we'd already met?"
"We did? Oh. I forgot I guess."
So he did have amnesia. Poor guy.
"So, how long do you think it'll be until we get there..?" I said in an attempt at making conversation.
"I don't know."
...
Wow. He was making it VERY difficult to be friendly.
The rest of the ride went in silence with my occasional question here and there, and thankfully, we reached the village soon after.
"We need to blend in while we're here, Tokito-San," I gestured towards a small store which seemingly sold lovely yukata dresses.
I had my eye on the gorgeous red yukata in the front of the store. I thought it was delightful, and the same type that my mother would buy for me when I was young.
As much as I need to be a disciplined and serious demon slayer, why can't I just enjoy simple things when not on duty? Though, given I was here on a mission, I probably shouldn't get too carried away.
"Why? No point in wasting money if we'll leave soon anyway," said Tokito, in the most monotone voice I'd ever heard.
I adopted my most persuasive voice and expression.
"Well, wouldn't it be easier to ask villagers for information, and look around town if we had more casual attire? Or were you not aware of that, Tokito-San.?"
His expression hardened. I win!
"Fine, but hurry up."
With that, he walked into the store, and I followed.
Immediately, I began to converse with the seller about how beautiful their Yukata collection was, earning myself a look of agitation from Tokito, which only lasted a moment before his expression returned to its stoic origin.
I asked about the red yukata, which I then tried on and fell in love with.
"Perfect! I'll take it, how much?"
The seller smiled and I paid for my dress.
"Don't you want to get one too, Tokito-San?"
He turned to me, his expression made of granite. "I'm good."
His gaze moved over my yukata, and his expression softened a smidge.
"You look nice."
I... did I just hear that right? He's capable of more than dense answers?
"Why thank you," I quipped dramatically, spinning around. "You should get this one."
I pointed towards a teal yukata, which would suit him perfectly. But of course, he HAD to be difficult again.
"No. We need to go now."
"I'll pay for it, just-"
He cut me off by leaving the store. How rude. I bid the seller a quick thank you and goodbye before catching up with him.
Then, when we were away from the crowd, he turned to me and stopped.
"We have a mission to complete. Will you quit being so incompetent?"
...
"Sorry," was all I could muster.
As much as I wanted him to have fun, and as much as I was hurt he'd said that, I understood where he was coming from.
I wondered how his speech went from 'you look nice' to 'you're incompetent'. But he must've noticed I was upset since he mumbled a quick "I'm sorry too."
Later, once it was night, I changed out of my yukata and into my uniform.
"Ready," I exclaimed.
He nodded and then rushed off to the mountains close to the village, I followed hastily. But he was too fast, and I'd lost him within seconds.
Fuck...
It'll be okayI continued on the trail, my senses sharp and searching, but inside I was quite nervous. It was pitch-black outside and there was no sign of the Hashira I'd came here with.
Don't scream.
I continued forward, my hand on my sword hilt, just in case of emergency. When all of a sudden, I heard a branch snap behind me; something was here. And moving.
I looked around me, my senses on high alert when all of a sudden, a demon came falling out of the sky.
It nearly crushed me when I maneuvered my way over it.
I swung my flexible sword in a spiral-like pattern and used it to encase its head and rip it off. There. Killed.
But this isn't the only demon here.
No doubt about it.
I continued my search for Muichi- I mean, Tokito-San. He couldn't have gotten that far.
That being said, he is a Hashira. So even if he did, it wouldn't surprise me.
Suddenly, I felt a pierce going through my leg, and I screamed.
Yeah. Screamed.
Fuck.
The pierce hurt more than it should've. But that's when the pattern of my wound made it clear to me what this was.
It was a mace of some sort.
I turned to find the demon, forcing the slight sting of my injury aside until it was dead.
Gotcha.
I did an aerial and then began to use my total concentration breathing.
Love breathing, first form.
Shivers of first love.Love breathing, fifth form
Swaying love: Wildclaw.Love breathing, second form
Love Pangs.I managed to kill the demon, when suddenly, another one pinned me to the ground
"Hey there little girl... shouldn't you be indoors this late at night?"
I held my breath. If I didn't, the demon would force me even more into the ground.
I closed my eyes, ready to face defeat.
I'm sorry, Mitsu-nee.
I'm sorry, mother.
