There it was—a notification from the company. Edward's heart raced as he opened the message.

"Dear Mr. Edward Revford,

We are pleased to inform you that we were highly impressed with your performance during the interview. We would like to formally invite you to join our team as a secretary. Please find the details of your orientation and first-day schedule attached. We look forward to welcoming you aboard.

Best regards,

The Hiring Team"

Edward let out a sigh of relief and joy. He had done it. He knew that he had already unlocked a new chapter of his life. He quickly typed a reply, accepting the offer. Just as he finished, Nate wandered into the kitchen, yawning and scratching his head.

"Morning, Ed. What's got you smiling this early?" Nate asked, grabbing a mug for his coffee.

Edward turned to him, beaming. "I got the job! The company just sent me an official offer."

Nate's face lit up. "That's amazing, man! We need to celebrate!". "I think we should celebrate in a bar!" Nate jokingly said, mocking Edward's incident with the stranger.

"Really? Hitting my anger spots in sunrise? How about I splash your coffee in your face." Edward mock-angrily to Nate

Meanwhile, David was having a similar morning. He had just finished making his breakfast when his phone chimed. He grabbed it, hoping for the news he had been waiting for.

Dear Mr. David Chua

We are delighted to offer you the position of secretary at our company. Your skills and enthusiasm greatly impressed us during the interview. Attached, you will find your orientation schedule and additional details about your new role. We are excited to have you join our team.

Best regards,

The Hiring Team

David closed his eyes and let out a smirk, he knew he'd make it. He quickly responded, confirming to accept the position.

Even though David wanted to celebrate, he can't. David doesn't have a lot of friends. Well, he has friends, but he's well aware that they are just using David for his money. David's parents are somewhat wealthy. Their income comes from the scent company built by David's parents.

Back at Edward's place, Nate was already planning their celebration. "Alright, tonight we're going out. No excuses. We'll hit that new restaurant downtown."

Edward chuckled. "Alright, alright. But you're buying the first round."

"Deal," Nate said, grinning. "Of course, when you get your first salary from your job, you'll treat us." Nate added.

Morning turned into afternoon; He spent rest of the day afternoon tidying up his apartment, unable to focus on anything else. Nate, seeing his roommate's distracted mind, suggested a quick workout at the gym to burn off some of the nervous energy.

"Feeling distracted, huh? How 'bout hit the gym? It'll also help you fight assaulters next time."

"Good idea," Edward agreed. "Let's do it."

They headed to the gym, where Nate pushed Edward through a rigorous workout. By the end, instead of feeling light and relaxed, Edward got cramps all over his body.

"Shit, my whole body hurts." Edward said while holding his body in agony. They returned home, showered, and slept.

David on the other hand, felt isolation chew his body. He does not have anyone around to celebrate with.

With a heavy sigh, David pushed aside his loneliness, he could still be happy all by himself! He ordered take-out online and prepared his home theater. He binge-watched Mean Girls while eating his take-out. He was happy with this!

Both prepared for their newfound journey ahead. Eager to path a new way to their success. Or so they thought...
