An Old Friend

At first after I became what I am... I stayed up all the time. Crying and destroying the forest. Sabina dared not to bother for when she did I nearly killed her but snapped out of it in time.

After a while I realized there was no point in losing control. I had to do something. So I came up with a plan. My goal was to find the Cranks and put a stop to them. More or less him.

I was already a small time hero at my young age that patrolled the forest area. I watched over to make sure villains didn't attack the hiking paths and camp grounds.

There I sat on my bed with it nearing the time for me to go out to my area. I wore my comfy go to clothes; a tank top and underwear. Hunched over on the bed looking at my papers. My comms radio was channeled in the main communication line for heros. Though I had it turned down so low the normal human wouldn't hear.

When I began my search I started with my tunnel entrance. There was an entrance only 30 minutes walk from my house. With security I convinced my sister to produce high tech locks and sensors that'd tell us when tampered with.

Searching and mapping the tunnels sounds easier than it is. It was like a complicated maze with no light, no direction, just quietness. Every here and there I'd hear a noise but I could never find the source.

The radio helped because and time I'd hear about a crime around a tunnel entrance I'd go and check it out but so far nothing.

I threw myself back on my bed whilst groaning. Throwing my hero suit on I rushed out the door using my super speed. I left and began doing my patrol of my area.

It was a quiet peaceful night. The camp grounds smelled of delicious and questionable foods. Walking around the forest I heard footsteps. Using my quirk I morphed into a crow and began following the noise.

"You sure you know the way back?" Asked a woman.

"Yes. The river was just east of camp so we need to head west." A man responded. Realizing they were just lost civilians I went back to my human form and dropped down.

"You guys need help?" I asked. The couple stepped back and looked rather scared. It was understandable the way they reacted. My hero fit was rather dark and intimidating with my swords, hunting knives and two guns. "Calm down. I'm Nightmare. The hero that watches over this forest."

"I-" the man straightened himself. "We were going west back towards the camp grounds. We don't need help from you. What makes you think that? Aren't there more important things for you to do?"

"Okay." I responded. "Judging from your stuck up attitude you don't want to admit that you truly are in need of help. I can tell because you are heading North and if I let you continue that'd lead you further from your camp. Not to mention the fact that the northern side of this forest has many wolf's, bears and predators. Which is in fact not safe for you or your freezing wife over here. Another guess is that you do not have the directional sense to find the north star which you are clearly facing."

The man looked defeated while looking at his shaking wife. I slowly kneeled and activated my quirk to make me a large horse with wings.

"Now are you going to get on?" I thought. My head was bowed as well as I was still kneeling to give them easy access.

Once in the air I smelled thick dog scent. It was odd because why would that smell be so high in the air. Then that's when I realized that was the people on my back.

After dropping them off I chilled running around the forest paths for a bit until it was time to go. Adding going to my new job it was taking away more energy that I thought. Especially since being outside in the sun, it doesn't hurt it just slows me down and drains my function.

Feeling a bit hungry I used my quirk to change into a cheeta. With my vampire powers and the ability of the cheetas nose, I began sniffing around.

I found a few rabbit carcuses but once I examined them it was obvious that a larger animal was the cause of their death. The dead bodies where still fresh. Following the scent of the killer it began smelling deeply like dog. I climbed up for a higher look when I heard a large whoosh overhead. It passed me fairly fast. Something was in the sky. I had to follow it.

Jumping from tree to tree as fast as I could I  followed it. That had to be the biggest bird I've ever seen. Remembering my hungry I launched into the air and tackled the large bird. I struggle to bite it as it feels like something or someone with arms was pushing me off. The two of out bodies went spiraling down the sky. It wasn't a bird...it was a man!

"Ahhh! Get off me you beast. What the hell? Is this even the country you're from?" The man shouted. Out of shock I lost the hold on my feline form and turned back into a person.

"I am so sorry-" Before we hit the trees I turned into a large bird, grabbed him by the shoulders and slowed the landing.

"What the hell lady?" He shouted. I turned back to regular. "You could've- Nightmare?"

"Keigo?" I responded. "What are you doing flying around here?"

"On my way back and wanted to take the scenic route." He chuckled. "Man. I haven't seen you for a couple years. Since before-"

"Before Granite went missing... Look I know you were his friend. I'm sorry. Where were you during the investigation? You never called or answered. You just disappeared..." I asked. Keigo (otherwise known as hawks) and Granite where the best of friends. The two ran missions together and challenged one another.

"I was away on a mission. It lasted almost 6 months. Once I got back I found out but I couldn't face the fact that he vanished so quickly." Keigo shook his head. "I couldn't face you guys apart of me thinks it's my fault."

"It wasn't your fault!" I gasp. "It was the villains with Vincent Fungei! This has nothing to do with you."

"I was apart of the group. Granites hero group. I failed to catch Vince before I left for my mission." Kegio buried his face in his hands. "I don't believe that the day he went missing being the same day I left for Africa was a coincidence. Vince was doing it on purpose. I've been secretly planned for the last few years to get back at him. I want to find Granite. Vince wants something and I plan to find out what."

"So you know he is a-" I cut off.

"Yes. Just like I know you're one too." He looked at me. "Truth is I found this tunnel near your house and began wondering about you. I was just scoping out these forests. I also been needing to talk to you."

"What about?" I ask. I didn't know if him knowing I am a vampire was bad. But with him being so close to Granite and I there was no reason to not trust him.

"Not here. Not now." He shushed me. "I'll come to your house this Saturday morning at maybe 10. I might have a person with me. Just trust me okay."

"Okay." I was still skeptical but accepted. How could he just disappear then 'randomly' cross paths.

"Need a ride home?" Keigo chuckled. I smiled and shook my head.

"How 'bout we fly together huh?" I say morphing into a hawk almost his size.
