*When they get you pregnant *

" Y/n?"

" Yeah?"

" Where did you put the car keys?"

You looked up at the ceiling trying to figure out where'd you put them.

" I don't know, did you have them last?"

" No, baby. You went to the store yesterday and didn't give em back. I need it so I can go to mommy's house."

You scrunched up your nose at the thought of his mother.

" You're going over there? I thought you said you would be here with me all day and rub my belly."

You were 7 months pregnant, looking as though you were ready to drop and you didn't really have the best relationship with Kais mother.

She wasn't too bad when you met her, more stern but she was...okay. but she started to get too beside herself once you found she was going to be a grandmother.

Trying to get you eat foods that wouldn't even stay down and always have Kai running in and out for her just to keep you two apart.

You knew this because she to you one time that a mother will always need her son. And it seemed as though Kai wasn't getting the hint that he was now a son husband.

" I will, I'll make sure my baby boy hear his daddy. But I got to go see my mother before she snaps on me."

You watched him dig around until he finally found the keys.

" Can you just call and tell her to just have her brother do it? You haven't been home all day and I want my time with you."

" What is this about, Y/n?" His attitude now shifting. " Because it seems like you don't like my mom."

" It seems like I'm losing my man. Look, don't come at me because you're too oblivious to know what your mother is doing. I'm getting tired of her dictating everything in our relationship.  You don't defend me and you always take her side. What will it take for you to understand that me and your unborn child needs you more."

Before Kai could say anything, his phone rang. He picked it up and you rolled your eyes because he was only trying to get out of the conversation.

" Mommy, I told you I'm coming-

You could hear his mother on the other end, berating him in her native tongue and it only pissed you off more because she knew you were around listening and she thought you didn't know what she was saying.

" Can you hold on. I was looking for my keys. Ok, I'll be there."

Kai looked at you, and tears rolled down your face. Kai felt like shit, he knew deep down that his mother was trying to turn him against you. He knew deep down that she only wanted him around because she was lonely.

Kai, lay on the bed next to you and began rubbing your bulging belly in circles. His son began stirring, sending a smile to his face.

" The doctor said he'll be fine. He will be ten pounds come birth. I'm scared because I might have to push him out. And I'm afraid that you won't be there."

" Don't say that, y/n. I won't miss my son being born for no one." Kai reassured you.

" I don't believe that. You've missed three of my doctors appointments all because you mama needed you, only for her yo not want anythiny."

" Her leg was messed up, you know that."

" she never even showed you paper work. And the next day she was just fine. And your sister was there to help her. Stop excusing your mama because you how she is."

Kai sighed, feeling very conflicted because he didnt want to lose his mother's love. He didn't want to lose yours neither, you were having his baby. A little Kai was going to be running around soon and he had to figure out how to explain to his mother that you were right and he needed to man up and stop always coming to her aide.

" Kai. This is the last. Go help your mom, and if she continues to do this and you don't defend me we're done."

Yeah, Kai wasn't letting that happen.

He kissed your lips and took the keys.

" I'll bring you back your favorite ice cream ok? I won't be gone long."

" Kai, why would you let your mother wait so long. That's so disrespectful."

" Mama, sit down."

" Is it about that girl? I told you I don't like her, and now you're having my first grandchild with her." She said in her native tongue.

" Mama please stop! I can't keep doing this anymore."

Mama Cenat cocked her head back and looked shocked as she felt like she was being shot by her own son.

" Where is this coming from? That girl?"

" She's right, mama. You don't be needing anything. You got sis, and your brother and you call me every single day for something. You're keeping me away from my girl knowing she's pregnant and can barely do anything on her own."

" Hold on. I raised you, I took care of you. And this is what I get, you being disrespectful and choosing her over me?"

" Ma, I show you love, compassion, I do everything and anything and I still get called disrespectful because you want your way? Whether you want it to or not baby Kai is coming and you have to get over it."

Mama Cenat had this look as though she felt betrayed. Her hands on her hips and Kai just knew he was about to get slapped.

" I raised you right. All I wanted was for my son to do good in life and take care of family. You can leave."

Kai didn't know if she received the information, but he did as he was told and left.

Months later, baby Kai was born.

He was a healthy seven pounds and 4 Oz. Kai couldn't be more proud to be a father.

On a date where he needed to be with his family because somehow the baby got sick, his phone rang.

You looked at him and he looked at you. You didn't even care anymore, because after what you said, he still went to his mother's aide.

You decided to stay because you still loved him and you didn't want his child to not know his dad, but unfortunately, you've been keeping your distance in the house.

" Hello, ma?"

The conversation went a bit like this. Kai was fed up. He gave his mother no choice and said that he wouldn't be pushed around anymore. He had a new family, and if he wanted you in his life, he needed to stop always including her in it and the only time he will be hearing from him is if she wanted to meet her grandchild.

He hung up the phone. His nostrils flared and he looked to be fuming.

You felt your heart warm, and you placed your baby in his father's arms to calm him down.

" I can't lose you, I love yall too much. If she don't want comply than I'll have to make the choice for her."

" I don't ever want you to disrespect your mother, but I'm glad you stood up for yourself."

" She didn't even come to the hospital, and all she wants is mess up her relationship with me."

You were so proud of your man. Kai has came a long way, but you knew he had alot more growing to do and with that, you needed to be by his side.

Because he was a father now. And there was no way he would ever let his child down.

Not for himself

Or his mama.
