"sorry,"

these girls are nuisances.

"i have someone i like already."

the exorcist puts his hand behind his nape, rubbing it shyly while putting up a sheepish smile.

all these confessions from other girls, yet there's not one from her.

he couldn't care less about the girl in front of him, blushing and awkwardly standing there as if she's waiting for him to change his mind or for a chance to be with him.

it irritates him greatly.

he doesn't bother looking at the girl directly. the only face he'll ever look at is—

—yashiro-san?

from his peripherals, he sees the girl he's been longing for right around the corner, holding a bag with an unusual pattern. one he recognized was in possession from a supernatural. the mermaids, perhaps?

most importantly, her features expresses disdain and... heartbroken.

as if she was planning on confessing to him today.

move.

teru's right eye twitch and so are his fingers.

move, goddammit.

his legs aching to run to her, to reassure her that he only has eyes for her, to embrace her in his arms tightly until she can't breathe.

his breath hitched in this throat.

she's... nowhere in sight.

.

teru slammed the door open, startling the vice president of the student council awake, his glasses tilted and drool seeps out.

"wha-?! pres?" akane stiffens, noticing the look on his face. the redhead fixed his glasses, a look of concern across his face as his eyes stayed on teru's saddened expression. what is he on about this time..? "what... happened?"

if akane's being honest, he doesn't really give a crap about whatever the hell happened that made him look so miserable. but due to previous events and in fear of being tied up to the ceiling, he asks with a fake tone of worry.

teru slumped down on his desk, stacked papers and documents just beside his head. "i feel pathetic.."

akane blinked. then twice.

what? him?

teru? feeling pathetic?

akane almost laughs.

"why? did a supernatural say some harsh words to you?" the ginger head immediately slaps his mouth once he realized what he said, he closes his eyes and braces for impact about what teru might throw at his way. but it never came.

akane slowly opened his eyes, still seeing teru in his miserable state.

now this was creeping him out.

what exactly did happen?

while akane was coming up theories and assumptions about what happened to teru, the older exorcist was having the biggest problem in his life.

getting the girl he wants.

"yashiro-san.. she likes me, right? she has to."

this was giving him a headache.

love is really difficult.

.

"today's raining really hard, huh.." nene muttered to herself, holding her hand out to the rain. the back of her hand immediately turning into scales, and her brows burrowed. she sighs and pats her hand dry with her handkerchief. she wonders if she'll ever get used to this curse..

"so it's true." nene jolts from her spot, turning around and seeing the president of the student council, and her face turned red.

"m-minamoto-senpai?!" she shrieks, but only below a whisper. nene notices he has been staring at her hand and she retracts it to her back. "u-uhm..! this.. this is..!"

"so you did consume the mermaid's scale." his statement alone made her freeze, putting on a gentle smile in hopes to reassure her. "why? is it because he told you that it'll help you bound with the one you love for eternity?" he takes several steps forward while she doesn't, her thoughts running around and couldn't make any hasty decisions. she can't step backward or else she'll..

he stops just a few feet away from her. "minamoto-senpai.. how did you—" nene gulps a lump in her throat. somehow.. she's scared. she's really scared right now. scared of the guy she's been chasing for a while. "—how did you know..?"

teru's smile became gentler. eerily. "does that matter, yashiro-san?" he leans towards her face, his shuddering smile still present on his face. like a parasite. "what matters more.. is that you don't have an umbrella." she already knows that. "..and you'll turn in to a fish if you get completely wet, right? a weather like this will undoubtedly turn you like that in an instant.."

teru holds up his umbrella. conveniently for two people. "let's share, shall we?"

.

the next day, nene's thundering footsteps echoed through the abandoned building that continues on until the 3rd floor, and a ghostly shriek followed.

"hanako-san." she kneeled down pitifully, her voice gloomy and low. "please undo this curse."

and so, a new rumor has began that sounds of thunder could be heard inside the abandoned school building in broad daylight, even when there was no heavy rain.
