My phone started to ring at 6:45 am. I snatched it from beside me and turned the alarm off. School was the last thing on my mind today. I shuddered as events from last night replayed in my head.
I couldn't believe Dad hit me. My hand subconsciously flew to the area of my face where he had struck me.
Crap, I hope it didn't leave a mark. I turned on my camera and was reaching for my lamp when my hand knocked over something.I leaned down to get it. It was a small light pink box with a card taped to the front that read: So Sorry!. I flipped it open and inside was a rose gold necklace with a heart pendant encrusted in diamonds. I shook my head in disgust as I closed the box and chucked it across the room.
That was the shit I was talking about. Always throwing material shit at us instead of being a real man and saying sorry to my face.
Not even 2 minutes later, Chase came charging through my door. "You straight?"
I rolled my eyes, "Yes."
"Well Trin is already up and getting ready. You know we have to leave early so you can go change her transportation information."
"Shit! I forgot", I jumped up and grabbed my towel as I ran to my bathroom.
---------
It was 7:30 by the time we were on our way to the elementary school. We would probably be late to our own today. It was partially my fault. It took longer to straighten my hair than I thought it would.I decided to wear leather joggers and a red t-shirt. Red and black Jordans were on my feet while black hoops were in my ears. I decided not to do too much today because honestly I wasnt feeling it.
We pulled up to the school and I jumped out of the car with Trin in tow. I figured I should stop at the office for the form but they were literally full of parents. I glanced at my phone. It was 7:50 already.
"Just show me to your classroom", I told Trin.
Mrs. Koleman was standing outside of her door when we got there,"Trinity! Good morning!"
Trin smiled shyly and waved as she scurried to her seat and pulled out her notebook. Mrs. Koleman turned to me, "Did you fill out the form?"
"No ma'am, they were full and we're already super late."
She nodded her head, "I'll stay late today with Trin again. I understand your situation. So don't worry about being late."
I smiled gratefully at her then ran towards the car.
" Got it done?", Chase asked as he raced toward the highway.
"Too many people. We'll handle it later."
---------
It was 8:23 by the time I walked through Mrs. Gisely's door. She was in the middle of a lesson and stopped mid-sentence just to scold me. I swear I didn't hear a word she said. I just walked to my seat beside Nelly, rolled my eyes, and opened my book. When Mrs. Gisely finally noticed I wasn't even listening, she hushed, narrowed her eyes, and went on with her lesson.Nelly raised an eyebrow at me. I just responded with a half smile. I wasn't in the mood to talk. In fact I didn't even want to be here.
---------
Nelly walked through the lunch line without me today. I wasn't hungry. Then I followed her to our booth. We were silent for a few minutes until she realized I wasn't going to talk."You wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?"
I laughed, "No, I'm just not feeling it."
"Girl, you have the rest of the school year for that. It's just the second day. What's really bothering you?"
