The Protector

Chapter 1

(A/N: I'm going to try to write in Third person so if it's bad, that's why)

On a cool brisk night a full moon sat in the star filled sky glowing its beautiful light over the slumbering kingdoms. Well most were slumbering as a lone knight stood on a balcony staring out onto the kingdom he protects. This knight is known as Joshua Hatake. Some have a few nicknames they call him. Two of them are Silver or Scar. Others call him the Nightmare of the battlefield. He came from a pack of wolves that once lived in the forest not to far from the kingdom he now protects. They were always at peace with any kingdom they went too until one day there was a war and his pack got caught in the middle of it.

Most of his people were killed and he couldn't stand it so he made a deal that he would become a knight of the kingdom in exchange for his people's life and now he is the knight of Animal Kingdom that's ruled by Leonidas Lionheart. He's hated the power hungry king since the day he started. Luckily the queen was different from her husband. Brandi Lionheart is her name and she could tell Joshua didn't want to be there. After that day she did her best to earn his trust and show that she was a friend. They did eventually become friends though Leonidas doesn't understand why she wanted to be friends with him but he just left it alone.

As time went on Joshua started to see Brandi as a sister as their bond grew over the years. They always joked around when they had free time and even went to the village and other kingdoms though it had to be under secret so Leonidas didn't try to do something out of hand. At the moment Brandi is pregnant and most of the knights noticed that Joshua has gotten a bit more protective than usual. Most find it strange but others that know their bond knows that it's his instincts kicking in to protect a pregnant mother and the unborn child given it's a part of his job.

Brandi: Sliver, Why are you standing out here so late.

Joshua: Can't sleep, why are you up to your Highness?

Brandi: I couldn't sleep either and got an urge to find you.

They both shared a small laugh guessing the reason why.

Brandi: I guess the baby already feels a connection with you.

Joshua: Maybe, but only time will tell.

They stood there talking for a bit until the current captain of the knights, Blake Samuel on patrol walked by and saw us talking. Doing his job he walked over and questioned them.

Blake: Your Highness, Hatake, what are both of you doing here this late at night.

Just before Joshua could speak Brandi spoke quickly.

Brandi: I had a hard time sleeping and saw Mr. Hatake standing guard at the door so I asked him to accompany me to the balcony for some air.

Blake: Is this true Hatake?

Joshua nods and stands in a ready position before responding.

Joshua: Yes sir.

Blake: Well both of you should go back to your chambers before King Leonidas gets up and causes a ruckus.

They both nod as Samuel walked away. Once out of range Joshua gave a tired and annoyed sigh while rubbing his eyes softly.

Joshua: Why must he always pop up wherever I am?

Brandi: Well he is your captain plus my husband assigned you to him for training.

Joshua: There's that, but why does he hate me so much?

Brandi: Well you are the only wolf that's a knight though he does seem to have some interest in you.

Joshua: In which way because I'm bi but I'm not dating him.
