Warnings: animal death

Word Count: 220

In the original version there are double line breaks. Wattpad doesn't accept these so I have had to use "." as a placeholder for a blank line. I expect due to various formatting reasons the AO3 reading experience will be better, so consider reading there instead if you'd prefer! Thank you for your patience.

There is a bench on a road in a town where the wind does not blow. There is a streetlamp that flickers, that glows. Nothing stirs: It is night-time.

There is a girl sitting on the bench.

It smells like summertime, a still and dark summer, a night-time summer. Right, but not right for you. Wrong. The night is not for you, oh the night-time is not for the innocent, not for the weak, not for the guilty. The night-time is when the monsters come out, the children say it and are ignored, but the children see better in the dark. Nothing stirs in the dark.

There is a girl sitting on the bench in the night-time, body hidden and obscured in odd shadows by that flickering glow.

.

Oh, that is no girl.

.

And then she begins to sing. Cold as the air. Chilled hands resting on cool stone.

"Hickory, dickory, dock.

"The mouse ran up the clock.

"The clock struck one,

"The mouse ran down," and here she stops and she stands and she is silent for a long time, head angled and neck extended, still and silent and silent and still and watching the grass running off behind the bench into the deep far darkness.

.

Don't move.

.

"Hickory."

Heartbeat.

"Dickory."

Blood.

"Dock."

.

Shhh.

I'm very excited to be sharing Riri's story with you all!! I hope you enjoy. She has a chapter in All About OCs but I will have to make a second, as this is set 3–5 years prior to Death Note, which that chapter is for. I'll get an information chapter published soon as well. Thank you all!
