Despite feeling butterflies in my stomach, I had to quickly react and get out of there. There was something about Ray that I was drawn to, but I didn't know what it was. I didn't want to seem uncomfortable so I thanked the gentlemen for their hospitality and explained that I had a long drive ahead of me and that I needed to get back on the road. They fully understood and bid safe travels to me.
As, I was about to climb into my truck, I heard foot steps behind me and I didn't bother looking until I sat in my truck and was about to close the door. As I reached for the door, I was quickly stopped by Ray, who grabbed the door and stood there looking at me. My heart skipped a few beats as I glanced at Ray. Our eyes locked for what seemed like a long time. Then he finally spoke.
"Traveling far?" Ray asked.
I had no intentions of telling anyone where I was going. Not even a stranger. "A few hours away," I decided to answer with knowing that was probably the best answer as he has no idea which way I am going or to where.
He stood there smiling at me. In a way, I didn't want to leave, yet I needed to get to Silent Hill. I needed answers to my dreams.
"Be safe," Ray told me and just as he was about to close my truck door, he made eye contact with me one more time. "I am sure I will see you around again," and he closed my truck door.
I leaned back in my seat taking slow deep breaths in to steady my breathing realizing I really need to get going. I quickly inserted my keys into the ignition and brought the truck to life. I reached for my seat belt and buckled it and put the truck in drive. As I was leaving, I glanced towards the station. Ray was still standing there watching me as I left.
I made my way back towards the highway and continued my drive to Silent Hill. I probably should have grabbed something to eat or at least snack on but I had to get out of there or I would have never left.
I glanced up at my rearview mirror making sure I wasn't being followed by Ray. I didn't think he would but, I needed that reassurance myself. What can I say, I have seen enough crime movies to know.
About half a hour later I pulled into a little gas station. I was hungry and decided a quick snack and drink should tie me over until I found a diner or something. The gas station was small and welcoming. The tenant was an older gentleman dressed in overalls with a red shirt and a straw hat on. He looked away form his little television and smiled at me. I smiled back as I looked around the store for some snacks. A few moments later I was at the counter with a bag of pretzel Combos, a meat and cheese stick, a bottle of water, and a bag of Chex-mix. I know it is not the healthiest, but I am starving and didn't really get a chance to eat lunch after the incident with Ray. I just wanted to get out of the town.
After paying for my items, I took my bag and hopped back into my truck. Grabbing the map, I took a quick look at my route.
"Almost there," I said to myself. Maybe about another five hours.
I cranked the truck and secured my seatbelt and headed back towards the interstate. I drove for about another three and a half hours when I decided to pull into the next city and get an actual meal. I was still good in fuel but a top off wouldn't hurt as well.
I pulled into a gas station and topped my truck off. A cool breeze blew across my face gently with an aroma of rain. The sky was getting a little dark and the clouds was filling with rain. I stood there welcoming it. With the click of the nozzle of the gas pump telling me my truck was full, I paced the nozzle back up and secured the gas cap and door on my truck and went in to the station to pay.
While in the gas station, I asked the cashier where the best place was to eat and she advised me that the old Mac's café was the best in town and I couldn't miss it was it was just two blocks down the road in an old railroad passenger car that was converted into a diner.
I thanked the cashier and walked back towards my truck. Just as I was climbing in, out of my peripheral vision, I had seen a black car that looked exactly like Ray's car but when I turned to look, there was nothing there. I must have been imagining it or a black car may have passed by going down the road.
Cranking my truck, I turned towards the diner and within moments I found it. A maroon colored old passenger train car converted. I knew the food was going to be good. as there were a lot of people here. It didn't take me long to pull in and shut my truck off and go in.
