He's here and it reminds me of something.
It's dark, you're tired, and you pull into the driveway and shift into park. You're about to flip off the engine but a song comes on. It's so good that you let the car run until the song, inevitably, ends.
I was aching to leave this party. But now I'm listening.
Noah says something, scarred eyebrow raised.
"Pardon?" I choke out, gripping my bottle.
He points his beer across the room. "Looks like your matchmaking is going well."
Maddie and Fox, a dim haze across the other bodies, are now deep in conversation.
"Holy Hell," I breathe.
"Give Fox some credit," Noah says.
Sure. It's just paranormal to see them interact so seamlessly after stressing for an entire week.
Leaning into the wall, I try to muster some semblance of relaxation. Noah mirrors my stance, facing me a little, close but not too close.
In a moment of sheer panic, I bite down on my tongue to stop myself from saying something dumb like, You smell like heaven, holy shit, emphasis on Holy because I already made a fool out of myself with the beautiful eyes thing.
Noah catches me. "You're not actually biting your tongue, are you?"
I stop immediately, my face heating up, and shake my head. Cool as a cucumber. Easy peasy.
He looks away, takes a sip of his beer.
"Fox said you weren't coming," I blurt out.
"Hm. I was planning to study."
"Why'd you come? Wait, new question. What kind of history do you study? Is it war? Liberation?" I'm rambling. I can't stop. "Do you get to see ancient scripts? You don't have to answer any of these questions by the way. I'm just saying everything that's in my brain—"
"Cam," he interrupts, a small smile twitching as he looks at me. "This semester, it's essay classes on the Romans, and Greek Punishment."
My eyebrows crawl up my forehead. "That sounds...cheerful."
"Justice, morality, the consequences of our actions." He takes another sip of his beer, his gaze shifting to the crowd. "All that fun stuff."
I nod, trying to appear thoughtful and not like I'm mentally cataloging how his throat moves when he swallows. "The whole eternal punishment thing always seemed a bit harsh."
"Harsh, but effective. Imagine rolling a boulder up a hill for eternity. I know I'd repent."
"You would get good at hill climbs. Your calves would be fantastic."

RomanceHis lips trail down my neck, sending shivers all over. "I love looking at you," he breathes, brushing the hair off my shoulders. "Will you let me look at you?" My heart hammers, a wild thing seeking his. "Yes." So he does. And I feel it. For a long...
