"I found something," Alaric said, holding up a dusty old book with a proud grin. "It's about mermaids and humans."

Serena's eyes lit up with excitement. "Really? What does it say?"

The prince opened the book and flipped through the pages. "There's a part here that says a mermaid's kiss can save a drowning sailor. Can you believe that?" He looked up at her with a smirk.

Serena giggled, finding the idea both amusing and unbelievable. "That sounds so ridiculous. How could a kiss save someone from drowning? Do you think it's true?"

Her best friend shrugged. "Who knows? But it's interesting, right? Sadly, there's nothing about the artifact you found."

She sighed in disappointment but managed a smile. "Thanks for trying, Alaric. We'll figure it out eventually."

After a bit more chatting and laughing, Alaric had to leave for his royal duties. The mermaid watched him go, her mind restless. She needed answers, and waiting around wasn't going to help her find them.

"I can't just sit here," she muttered to herself, her gaze drifting to the surface.

Unable to stay still, Serena ventured near the surface once more. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the ocean.
