How tragic. In the first funeral I've ever attended, two caskets are laid. Across them, rows of tables, full of people are chatting, comforting each other of their loss. It's quite full of people, but somehow, it's not noisy, or depressing. It's solemn and a bit calm. A few people, including Grandma, cried, but it soon turns into a serene smile, full of reminiscence. I, on the other hand, can't help but feel guilty.
'Leon?' Leon, who is sitting beside me, turns to me. 'Your mother...what was she like?'
'She's.....kind,' he is smiling now. Perhaps, he's replaying a good memory. 'She always listens to me....and praises me.'
'She sounds like a great Mom.'
'Yea...,' I can see a single tear escapes his eye. I feel sorry for him, but he may have known something that I don't. I need to ask him.
'Do you think....she might be killed?'
'She was.' His voice is flat, but it strike my heart, hard.
'What?'
'The House told me,' his voice is soft, but clear. 'The House told me that Father killed Mother.'
'He killed her?' I turn him to me. 'Did he push her out of the window?'
'I dunno. All she said was he killed her.'
I can't believe it. It's solved. The most exciting thing I had all year is gone. The mystery has been revealed. I can feel the excitement budding in my chest, before it was pushed by more questions. Is it really true? How did he do it? What do you mean the house told you? Is the house really haunted?
'Grandma and Dennis' case is different though.' Leon's words catch my attention. 'Justin might've did it.'
'Wait wait wait. Justin? That can't be right. Justin is only six!'
'i think...I think The House possessed him....it's a punishment for Grandma. He....pushed her off the stairs.'
I feel like my heart is going to come out of my throat. 'Why....why does it want to punish her?'
'Because she killed Dennis.'
Leon's answer feels like an ice bucket on a hot day. How could this happen? I DID notice that Grandma Dottie was a bit overworked, but there's no way she would just kill her grandson like that. I start to tremble. This case is supposed to be thrilling. I thought I would found out some hidden truth, like the husband being abusive and finally killed the wife, or some conspiracies regarding the family, or some unknown secrets that leads to her demise. Never have I ever thought that it would lead to a chain of deaths instead. A grandma, who killed her grandson, was later killed by a ghost, it sounds even crazier than a movie plot.
'Orion...I need to pee...,' Justin's plea interrupted my thoughts.
'Sure...' Orion smiles a little as he takes his hand 'Let's go, Buddy!'
Justin is still young. So young that he still asks someone to go to the toilet with him. The fact that he killed someone is incomprehensible, but Leon said that he saw it. If he's right, then, like he said, Justin must've been possessed. What should we do then? The answer immediately pops into my mind. We need to help him. We need to exorcise him. That's how our mission to get rid of the ghost started.
Leon and I decide to split-up the work. Leon would observe Justin's behavior while I find out more about this ghost and exorcism thing. To be honest, it's pretty challenging. The internet has been helpful with the research. In fact, it's too helpful. There are so many information, that I don't know which one I should follow. Meanwhile, my work as a maid has only increased. With Grandma Dottie gone, Arthur had asked me to work full time until he can find a replacement. I couldn't decline.
