Silence enveloped us like a suffocating blanket, stretching out over the vast expanse of people amidst the swirling dust clouds. We stood there, stunned and bewildered, as if frozen in time.
As for me, I found myself grappling with a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. It was difficult to make sense of it all; my mind felt like a jumble of tangled wires, unable to process the chaos unfolding before me. Amidst the sea of faces, each bearing a different expression – from tears to laughter – I struggled to find my footing.
"What the fuck..." I muttered under my breath, casting a bewildered glance at those around me. Some were weeping inconsolably, while others seemed to be on the brink of hysteria, their laughter tinged with madness. Meanwhile, a minority did not react at all, rather, they looked intrigued at the incident that transpired before us, some even investigating the dust that lay at their feet.
Taking a deep breath, I attempted to collect my thoughts, but the task proved daunting. I was at a loss, overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the situation. It was as if I had been thrust into the middle of a nightmare, with no clear path forward.
"Okay...okay. Think, Al," I murmured to myself, the words feeling hollow and meaningless. Despite my efforts, I couldn't shake the feeling of helplessness that engulfed me. I didn't know what to do, who to turn to, or even where I was.
All I had were the haunting words of Chronos echoing in my mind, a constant reminder of the surreal reality I now found myself in. With a heavy heart, I tore my gaze away from the circus around me and fixed my eyes on the towering structure looming in the distance, its imposing presence a reminder of the unknown ahead.
'He said that tower would give us answers... But before knowing it, we need to know ourselves.' With that, I only had a single word in my mind.
"Status"
As that word escaped my mouth, A vibrant violet status menu popped up in front of my face, just as if I was in a video game.
