The golden, radiant high school in front of Sally's eyes nearly blocked out the sun in its grandeur. Prim proper students walked by, in their cute outfits and perfect hairstyles and makeup. Why fate decided that a little orphan Anti-Sue like her would go to a school with primarily Mary-Sues, she didn't know for sure. But she knew it wasn't anything good. Great, she thought, still looking up at the building with dread. I'm going to get eaten alive in there. She was internally panicking, not wanting to make a fool out of herself with her drab, grey outfit and subpar makeup, what if she was setting herself up for failure just for being here and- "Hey," said a girl in front of Sally, snapping her out of her panicked state. She was also wearing mainly grey, with a rainbow gradient tie and hairbows. Her hair was a soft shade of pink, with royal purple eyes that mesmerized Sally. The Mary-Sue smiled down at Sally, but her face seemed concerned. "Are you alright? I saw your panic, and I got worried..." She looked back at the other Mary-Sues, who all were walking towards the school. "I don't know why the others didn't help. Anyway, my name is Ruby. Ruby Sue Smith." She attempted to touch Sally's hand before Sally pulled it away. "And yours," Ruby asked. "It's, um...it's Sally," she said, dusting herself off and preparing to run, despite knowing that she would always trip. "Alright, Sally. It's lovely to meet you. Are you new here? Do you need me to show you to reception?" Ruby's voice sounded sweet and endearing like a loving puppy, and Sally just couldn't run. Not yet. Even though she thought of herself as cold, she wasn't a monster, was she? 'Yeah, I'm new. You can, uh...show me around if you want." She awkwardly smiled at the young, endearing lady who gently grasped her hand. "This way," she said, slowly walking at a pace where it wouldn't be easy to fall. Maybe, Sally hoped, maybe this won't be so bad after all.
Around twenty minutes later, Sally finally found her classroom, room 222. She knocked on the door and it opened on its own, revealing nineteen students and one teacher giving her looks. Almost none of them were friendly. "Miss Johnson, you're ten minutes late. I'll give you a pass this time since you're new here, but if you're late again, you'll be seeing me after school," the teacher barked, before her tone turned back nice and polite. "Now, you're next to Miss Smith." That's when Sally noticed Ruby at the front of the class, an empty seat beside her. She smiled and waved politely at her. Sally just plopped down in the desk next to her, rolling her eyes. "Now, if there are no more interruptions, it's time to discuss your project. You'll spend the whole semester on one project, the topic of which will be of your group's choosing. It must include at least two of the four of the topics we'll be learning about this semester: Poetry, Persuasion, Fiction, and Recounts. I will be assigning your groups now." The teacher picked up the piece of paper on her desk, with all the groups listed on it. "Group One is Adam and Ava, Group Two is Bailey and Charlie, Group Three is Crystal and Dave, Group Four is Dove and Ethel..." As the teacher was listing off the groups, Sally nudged Ruby's arm. "So, uh...I wanted to-" Ruby made a silent shushing sound. "Mrs. Ravenway is talking," she whispered. "And group ten is Ruby and Sally. You will be sitting with your partner and be engaging in quiet discussion about the topic of your project for the rest of class. You have three weeks to submit your topics." With that, the class fell mostly silent, other than two right behind Sally. "Hah, look at the new girl," one said, a male with chestnut brown hair and blue eyes, looking like a fairytale prince. "Yeah, maybe our project should be on why Anti's are inferior," the other one remarked coldly, her strawberry blond hair practically glowing in the light airy classroom. They both quietly laughed at her, and tears began to well up almost immediately. Sally was always too sensitive yet not sensitive enough, and she knew it was her nature by now. "Hey," Ruby said, turning around to face the two jerks behind them. "That's not very nice. We all must treat each other with respect!" She smiled, but that smile fell almost instantly as the two jerks laughed in her face. "Treat Anti-Sues with respect, good one Ru," laughed the girl. Ruby's kind expression went dark. "It's not a joke, Crystal. I'm being completely serious..." Don't waste your time on them, girl, Sally thought. It's not worth it.
