I was driving to the office when I saw Asmee standing by the side of the road. I couldn’t just pass by. I slowed down and pulled over, rolling down the window. "What are you doing here?" I asked. She ignored me, her eyes focused somewhere far away. I sighed, and got out.
Walking up to her, I asked again, "What are you doing here all alone?"
She tried to walk away, but I grabbed her hand and pressed her against my car, placing my hands on the roof and caging her between my arms. She flinched, but I didn't regret the move. "Don't make me ask again, love," I said softly.
She hesitated, then said, "I'm waiting for my driver."
"For what?" I pressed.
"I'm going to the city hospital."
My eyes narrowed with concern. "Why? Is everything okay? Are you hurt somewhere?"
She looked at me with disdain. "No, it's not me. And why do you even care if I'm hurt? Afterall you left the biggest scar."
I felt a pang of guilt and removed my hands. She tried to walk away again, but I grabbed her hand. "Sit in the car. I will drive you."
She struggled to free herself. "No thanks, I don't need your favor."
"I'm also going to the city hospital, so just get in the car, Asmee," I lied.
She sighed in frustration. "Do you want me to carry you in a bridal style and take you to the hospital?"
"Ugh, fine," she groaned, finally getting into the passenger seat.
The drive was silent, filled with tension. I broke it. "Remind me why we are going to the city hospital?"
She looked at me suspiciously. "You lied that you were also going to the city hospital."
I smirked. "Of course, I did. I just wanted to spend time with you."
She looked away, clearly frustrated. "Nina texted yesterday that my friend Aastha just delivered her baby."
I was shocked. "What? Aastha had a baby?"
She looked at me again, suspicious. "I mean, Congratulations…to her of course. And Ridhima told me about her."
She nodded, and looked outside the window. Just then, my phone rang. It was Aahan. I answered on speaker. "Yoo Aahan, what's up, baby?"
Asmee gave me a disgusted look. "What the hell?"
I laughed, but Aahan’s voice on the other side was tense. "Ivaan, I—uhm..."
"What's wrong, Aahan?" I asked, sensing something was very wrong.
"Aastha died," Aahan said.
I slammed on the brakes so suddenly that we both jerked forward. "What??" Asmee shouted.
