"Looks like the kids already know each other!" came a voice from the background.

"Now I feel relaxed. Looks like they'll make a great couple."

As the word 'couple' registered, I felt Sir's grip around my waist loosen. The next second, I was on the floor.

My butt hit the ground with a hard thud, and a yelp escaped my lips.

A chorus of gasps and murmurs filled the room. My cheeks burned hotter than ever as I sat there, stunned and embarrassed.

Samarth quickly rushed beside me, concern etched across his face. "Eva, are you okay?" he asked, his hand gently touching my arm.

I forced a laugh, trying to brush off the humiliation. "I'm fine," I said, my voice trembling slightly.

"I apologize, Ms. Verma. I didn't mean to let go so suddenly,"
he said, extending a hand to help me up. His tone was formal, but I could see the faint hint of amusement in his eyes.

I ignored his hand and let Samarth help me to my feet. "Mr. Grumpy Gusty!" I muttered, dusting off my dress and trying to regain some semblance of dignity.

Samarth's mother approached us, her face lit with a smile. "Well, that was certainly an entrance! But it's good to see you two are already acquainted."

Acquainted to whom? Samarth or Sir?
I nodded, forcing a smile, my mind racing to process what had just happened.

"In that case, shall we get Eva and Agastya engaged today itself?"
A lady who wasn't my mother and was definitely not Samarth's mother proposed.

I couldn't believe my luck—or lack thereof. First, nearly crashing into him earlier, and now this.

Engaged to sir? Wasn't I going to marry Samarth?

I stared at my parents, who seemed overjoyed, their faces beaming with happiness.

Confusion swirled in my mind, and my gaze shifted to my elder sister.

Her face was pale, a stark contrast to everyone else's expressions. It seemed she was the only one who understood my bewilderment.

She met my eyes, her expression apologetic, and mouthed a silent "sorry."

All this time, I had been excited, thinking the Chauhans had asked for my hand in marriage to Samarth. But it was for Agastya sir?

I turned to Sir, who looked just as disappointed and stunned as I felt.

"Let's get you both engaged," someone announced.Disbelief took over me as I heard the words.

Before I could fully process the scenario, Sir interjected firmly, "That won't be possible."

"We talked about it, Agastya," the older man, who seemed to be Sir's father, protested.

"Yes, we did, but our marriage would be unethical," Sir retorted, his voice steady but resolute.

"She's my student, and you never mentioned that the bride you chose for me would be my student."

A lump formed in my throat, making it impossible for any words to escape. I stood there, paralyzed, as the weight of the situation pressed down on me.

"But you'll be taking over the business, Agastya," his father insisted.

"I told you it wouldn't be at the cost of my passion. I love teaching, but this is not right," he fought back, his voice unwavering.

Is this god speaking through Agastya sir's words?

A wave of relief washed over me. Even Sir had no interest in marrying me. Otherwise, what a pervert he would be to even consider marrying a girl almost ten years his junior?

"In a few months, Eva will be graduating from the university anyway. I don't think we should stop such a big union just for this university's rule," my father's voice broke through my thoughts, sending a chill down my spine.

"Eva and Agastya's wedding opens big opportunities for both of our businesses. I think we can be secretive about the engagement until she graduates. It won't be unethical afterwards."

Shock rooted me to the spot. My own father wanted me to marry this grumpy old man?"Papa!" I managed to croak, my voice barely audible.

"If the news of our engagement gets out, Eva's life could get ruined. She could get blacklisted from the university," Sir expressed his concern, echoing my own fears.

"Agastya!" His father called him, leaning closer and it felt as if he whispered something into his ears because I could see the change in his expression, he clenched his jaws.

"We should proceed with the engagement right now!"
Sir's father, Mr. Shravan Kapoor said.

Panic surged through me as I looked at Sir, desperately hoping he would retaliate again.

But I don't know what uncle told Agastya Sir, he completely went silent and simply agreed without giving a fight.

What a coward?

My eyes welled with tears just as Sarthak jiju appeared before me.

"Jiju?" I whispered, my voice trembling.

He placed his hand on my head and said, "Agya is a very nice person. He seems to be rude but he'll take good care of you."

Shock rendered me speechless. Jiju knew about this already?

Hold on! Did he just say Agya?

My eyes in a flash darted at Professor Agastya Kapoor, This is Agya?...Sarthak jiju's bff?

My eyes immediately went over to my sister who immediately gulped.

 what a scamster she is?

I always thought how cool she was for not being jealous when Jiju continuously spoke to her about 'Agya' , assuming it was jiju's female bestie...but it was Agastya Sir all along?

I feel even more betrayed.

My train of thoughts were broken when Jiju presented a brand new ring, carefully placed in a box, to Sir.

This was all planned? None of them bothered to even ask for my opinion.

I looked at my mom, who was beaming with happiness. Papa's face remained expressionless, while di gave me a sorrowful look.

"Papa! I don't want to marry h--"

"Listen both of you!...being born into business families comes with much more cons than the pros...look at Ekta and Sarthak, they are so happy with their marriage...It's your turn too Eva!...and If you decide to back off, then remember...you both will not get your share in the property." Papa stubbornly stated.

Please, someone stop this...tell me this is a nightmare.

But no one did.

Sir slid the brand new ring onto my finger, and I had to forcefully do the same for him...after all I definitely do want my share in the property.

"Congratulations! Our children are finally engaged."

'Congratulations your child is finally walking on the path of her own destruction.' I looked at my mother...

Jiya came and stood beside me, holding my hand. I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I looked up at Samarth.

He was clapping and smiling, completely excited.

Didn't he like me back? Was it one-sided? Had I misunderstood everything all these years?

Another tear rolled down my cheek as I bent my head, trying to hide my distress while everyone else celebrated this so-called union. They sold us for their own benefit! That's the feeling gnawing at my insides.

Amidst the chaos, a white handkerchief appeared in my line of sight. It seemed to be floating, but then I realized it was being held by someone. As I slowly looked up, I saw that it was Mr. Grumpy Gusty himself.

"Wipe your tears," he stated firmly.

This grumpy old man!

Is he bossing me around already? I can't even imagine how this marriage would turn out to be.

The urge to pluck every single hair from his head until his handsome face turned ugly surged within me. Handsome? Did I just think he was handsome?|

No! Nooo... Ewww!

I recoiled inwardly at the thought, shaking my head to dispel the idea.

Jiya squeezed my hand, her presence a small comfort amidst the turmoil.
I took the handkerchief reluctantly, my fingers brushing against Sir's. The gesture was unexpectedly gentle, but it did little to alleviate my anger and confusion.

As everyone around us continued their joyous celebration, I stood there, my heart heavy with betrayal and sadness, clutching the handkerchief from sir.

And just like that, in one day, he went from being my professor to my fiancé.
