Once upon a time, there were two Karls. These Karls had no physical differences but mentally, they were two very different raccoons. The same... yet not the same. One as normal as a raccoon can be while the other was doomed deeply traumatised since the beginning.
Both raccoons were part of a larger community of raccoons and today, they decided to explore Yokohama on their own.
Yokohama, being the second-largest city in Japan, was substantial for two raccoons to explore on their own. Especially with the local crime happening in the area; coming from the Port Mafia, Decay of Angels, The Guild (even though all raccoons in Yokohama was taken care of by a former guild member, meaning that the raccoons shouldn't be afraid of any trouble surrounding the group) and other lower gangs. Normal raccoons would be afraid of walking the streets of Yokohama by themselves but not the Karl group, the Karl group were armed.
They were armed with knives.
Taught by Edgar Allen Poe, the raccoons were trained to use knifes in case of any harm inflicted on them. Raccoons have become accustomed with weapons, specifically knifes, which were their favourite weapon to use. Over time, knifes had become part of raccoon culture and a raccoon without a knife was unheard of. When together, the Karl group was invincible, as well as looking like a stereotypical London gang.
While doing this, their owner, Edgar Allen Poe, met a man. Fyodor Dostoevsky. Fyodor Dostoevsky is a force not to be reckoned with, a man whose experienced lots and has a vast knowledge on most subjects, including raccoons. Especially raccoons.
Raccoons, in Fyodor's mind, were like rodents such as rats, which are pests who lurk in the background, knowing details that many would overlook. Rats are like spies, which is similar to Fyodor's beliefs and ideologies; they're the kind that people ignore and don't know about until it's too late.
During this, in one way or another, Poe and Dostoevsky had gotten together. A man whose ability is to trap people in his books and a man who reincarnates in the body of the person who killed him, while turning back into himself in their bodies. They own two of the most powerful abilities in Yokohama and shouldn't be underestimated, although they often get misunderstood in the beginning.
Such as the situation I've displayed here. Two raccoons, who are members of a raccoon gang and are owned by Edgar Allen Poe, are walking the streets of Yokohama.
Although Edgar Allen Poe seemed to care about the raccoon's safety, he didn't care as much about their wellbeing. Especially in the beginning. He first got the hold on the raccoons by kidnapping them, one by one. If he didn't kidnap some, it's because some raccoons would've tried to rescue each other, not realising that from the beginning, they were already caught. Poe was a sinister man to these raccoons, although people didn't realise this until they got close to him. He was a kidnapper and he made them eat food that they didn't like, such as liver. Every day, they had liver. They survived on it and most of them would have survived on it until the end of their days.
If any Karl misbehaved, he would mistreat them farther. He would neglect them or even, feed them toxic food, such as garlic and chocolate. Of course, the Karls have resented Edgar Allen Poe, and had planned to kill him with a knife; which is ironic since he was the one who taught them to use knives in the first place. That is, until Poe started to act normal with them. Slowly, he has stopped mistreating the Karls, which the raccoons have found suspicious... the raccoons were used to the cycle of abuse from Poe, so they were confused, why did the abuse suddenly stop?
As well as that, why was Fyodor talking to them more?
Knowing of Poe's deeds with the raccoons, Fyodor would mind his business and not get involved with them. But now he is. More and more. Slowly at first, but now, he came multiple times a day, taking care of them as if they're his own.
